Female Upgrading BH 202, QDII, To Time Ranger

Hi All,

We have been lurking in the forums for awhile now and recently registered, we've enjoyed lots great advice, story's, info, ect.

My Husband and I have been avid Detectorist's for many years, we used to sell Bounty Hunter Metal Detectors & Night Owl Night Vision Equipment.

We have owned and tryed many detectors, recently my Husband bought a Tesoro Tiger Shark for underwater hunting and as he's upgrading and trying out different detecting techniques, He wants me to try upgrading to a Bounty Hunter Time Ranger,
I'm used to the Bounty Hunter Quick Draw II, and now recently the Pioneer 202, (Same Unit As The Quick Draw II, QD2, QDII, ), old reliable for me!..
I'm wondering from other long time users of the Quick Draw II, Pioneer 202, what are your thoughts of a women converting to the Time Ranger?, any other gals out there swinging a Time Ranger?..

Well out with the old and in with the new, after many years of old faithfull, I have to take the plunge and my husband thinks I'm ready for the Time Ranger, in order to keep me away from old faithfull, He wants me to sell it...

Over the winter we replaced the whole control unit (Head) with a brand new one, replaced the coil, lower rod, the only thing used on my machine is the coil cover and the upper rod that the control unit connects to, and the only flaw is that the small stand under the arm rest is a hair loose, doesn't affect anything
and could be tightened, also it includes a carrying bag thats still like new, we put it up in the detector forums for sale and I'll miss it, never even used it since the new control unit and coil been replaced, I'm sure this would be a great start for another women or anyone looking for something reliable and affordable.

Any tips from other female detectorist's using the Bounty Hunter Time Ranger or the pioneer Land Ranger would be most appreciated.

Thanks in advance and if interested in a great detector, check it out in the Metal Detecting Equipment Classified Forum (Date 4-20-0:geek: ,
We accept Pay pal and have good feedback on eBay.

Happy Hunting All

P.S.

GreatMastiff, I truly understand your mixed emotions of getting rid of "ole Faithful". I've gone the same route as you are going, only difference I couldn't get rid of my 202 and decided to keep it as a back up. I purchased the Time Ranger about 3 months ago. You will find it has more of a learning curve than the QDII/Pioneer 202, but it's certainly worth it. The one thing I noticed right off the bat is I began digging targets that were much deeper than I was used to. I'm still playing around and experimenting with the best way to set it up. And I learn something new every time I go out with it. You're going to love the no motion pin pointing feature. I became very skilled at pin pointing with the 202 and only carried a narrow 9 inch screwdriver for all my retrieval. But with the TR I now carry a garden trowel with my screwdriver because I am digging more that before.

There's a few of us on here with the TR. One gal, Joan in Creek, purchased the 202 about 4 months ago and is having a great time with it. She's found some good stuff with it. Have fun with your new purchase and be patient, it operates a little different than the QDII/202. Enjoy the Hunt!

I cannot help you from personal experience as the Land Ranger is the highest in the lineup that I have swung personally, but I have heard nothing but good reports on the Time Ranger, and as dirt jockey said, get a longer digger, because it goes deep...about a foot on coins I have heard....I believe that with time on the Ranger, your gonna love it...I would love to get one myself, but my money is currently being saved to move out of my rental unit and into a house of my own...Getting tired of coughing up my hard earned money to someone else, and not getting anything out of it (like things fixed when I ask)...

I am no lady, in fact, not even of the female but I will throw in my $.02 worth. I shoot for silver and clad coins, gold and silver. with my Time ranger. I ground balance first, go to disc, and reject each iron as they come up, accept nickles if I feel like digging them and rusty iron, accept tabs if I feel like digging gold and reject zinc. To do this first hit disc. when it points to iron, hit reject 3 times, then it auto goes to nickles, hit accept or reject, tabs, accept reject, zinc the same then hit disc again to go at it. When I find an target I check it from 2 sides. Then I go to all metals pinpoint. Make an x to locate center, make it again 90 degrees from where you were the first time. Look at the id number on the scale. Once I pinpoint it, in all metals, I go back to disc and see if the ping is repeatable. If it says dollar or 50 cents and it is hard to pinpoint (hums in a large circle) it is probably a deep al can or rusted metal. If pinpointing in all metals and the target is a small area of 4 inches it is coins. If it is deeper than it indicated when it says dime or quarter 4 inches deep, it is probably junk but dig anyway. Any time the target is not shallower or right on depth, it is something deeper and probably larger than what is indicated. if it is a coin copper penny, dime clad (both detect the same), or quarter it is usually right on and the target is repeatable. In the disc mode I indicated you will miss the zinc pennies 99/100. I hope this helps. I have learned after a few days what a good target usually is but you must dig a lot first.
