Fellow Etrackers and Explorer users: Going to Texas thru Oklahoma. Any hints where we might swing a coil??

I hope this is appropriate but Arjim and myself are taking a turkey hunting trip to San Angelo TX from Friday till Tuesday. We will be leaving to return home Monday afternoon giving us a day and a half to detect on the way home. We will go through Oklahoma City and turn south thru Wichita Falls down thru Abilene. Anybody got any hints of a good spot or two to maybe swing a coil? We are definitely not trying to horn in on a spot and will only be there an hour or so but I thought I would ask as we will be going blind. We may even go back home to Northwest Arkansas a different way if need be. Thanks a bunch

I can help some look here for topo maps and get google earth. follow your rout in google earth and then look for topos here http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/topo/texas/index.html then in google earth mark your spots. I Know miles texas had a school back in the early 1900's in the same place the school is now.south west of san angelo was a small town in 1893 called sherwood they had school and the lot is still there but I dont know who owns it.
In google earth down on the side there is a place to allow you to show place of interest if you open that up and look you will see that you can make it show you all the schools parks and places of worship. That's a big help. good luck and dont come down here to dayton texas iv cleaned it out ok joken.

Thanks rb!! I will give it a try. Sounds fun to just get away to swing over different ground for a change.

Check out this park in OKC....

I hunted there quite a bit when I lived in Midwest City. I found my first Washington there with my DFX. :) It was used for the state fair back in the 20's & 30's I believe. It's been pounded pretty good by all sorts of detectors, but there are still some coins there. Some day I'm hoping to go back to hit it now that I have the SE.

Is Douglas Park the one your talking about. The Sat. image looks like most of that is a golf course now days. I work in Ok City some, so I'm always looking for a place to hunt. Thanks for the tip.

I lived in OKie for 2 years but was way out west in gage OK. So I cant help much but I did live near Lawton OK for a few months before coming back to taxes and I know there was some good spots around Wichita Falls. Some slave camps on the border of Texas and Oklahoma and many low water crossing for cowboys driven cattle. Now if you could go farther east to Paris Texas you could really have some fun. Many old homes and abandoned places there. Iv got in-laws there so I have hunted there. Had really good luck in that town. Now the other thing about texas. The ghost towns of texas book seem cool but iv gone to about half of the towns and people had been there and the owners of the land even told me others had been there. Every town i went to had been hunted and some even had holes still in the places showing they had been hunted. so stay off the beaten path if you can. the interstate highways will send rite on by the good stuff and you will miss some very pretty country. Hey take pic for us even if its just pics of the country side. Good luck

Will do rb, and thanks again!! Them slave camps sound good indeed!!
