The 10 inch dd coil is very good for depth in regular ground conditions but, for prospecting in northern CA where you have a lot of iron stone and hot rocks, I would recommend the 6x9 dd coil. It is excellent for separation and depth.

I am lead to beleive that the D2 has excellent pinpointing characteristics and is very light. Excellent for coins / relics.

I too have been looking at the D2 for depth. I have the 6x10 & it is a great coil & I get good depth but I can't find anyone that can give me a side by side comparison of depth with the two. Here in southern Utah I get about 10" on a quarter with the 6x10.
