OK! What do you think about the Deleon. can you really get an idea about how deep your find is and if it is worth digging? How long dose the battery's last?
Dose the screen have a back light? Can you see it in bright light?
I own one as much as I love Tesoro's the screen is very small, hard to see, and not a lot of information in my opinion, only one line no ground balance, no backlight, mine is a single tone, I think you can upgrade to high tone but not real sure, the battery life is good holds 8 under arm and is well balanced and light.
I own one and have no trouble with the size of the screen, however the Cortes is another story. Mine works quite well without ground balance adjustment IN MY SOIL. The display is pretty accurate on coins, but I don't pay any attention to the depth so can't tell you much there. If it shows a coin reading, I'll dig anyway. As qicpic mentioned there could be more information, but it's adequate for my needs.

I've had a Deleon for 6-7 years. I've had some real good finds with it and a whole lot of fun. The display woks well sometimes. I learned not to trust or pay too much attention to it to be honest. I do look at it but pay far more attention to the sound the machine is making over a target. Screen is big enough in my opinion. Deleon has trouble in very mineralized areas. To be expected in preset gb machines. I have always liked mine and will not get rid of it. A good detector that if used properly will find you silver, gold, relics and a lot of junk too. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the feed back with my old eyes I was not sure the screen would be much help. I am having fun with my shark. Had it about 10 weeks now. I am starting to have a feel for what I am going to dig.Starting to know a piece of foil. Not a clue on pop tops.
I love using my deleon, if i up graded it would be to a V. I take a note book with me on every hunt, keep notes on all my targets all three readouts, and what i find, part of my learning curve. if you go slow overlap your swings the deleon will find it, if you get one you will like it, just take the time to learn what it is telling you. a deleon wont work worth a darn out west. my feelings and two cents otie
I have had one since they first came out, always looking for something better I tried fishers, garretts, minelabs, a vaq and tejon, have not found any thing better for coins, just my opinion and in the arrea that I live in.
I had both the Deleon and Cortes and they are nice detectors. If the area you are hunting is fairly trash free they seem to work much better, but I prefer the Vaquero over both detectors. It is hard to hunt when the meter is going crazy in the trash so it is basically useless to me.
Both detectors have small meters and are hard to see, although the Deleon does have a tad bigger display. Not having manual ground balance in the disc mode was something I didn't like about either detector. You have to have pretty mild soil for either detector to work well.
In my opinion, you will be happier with a Vaquero than a Deleon or a Cortes. You will get better depth, the ability to ground balance your detector to the conditions you are hunting, and not having to strain your eyes to see the tiny meters. With the V if it beeps, you dig it.
If you rely on the meter you will miss many good targets that you will dig wth the Vaquero......HH
Love my D! Works well in my soil (NTX) and the numbers on the ID are pretty accurate. For a one-tone machine, I have begun to learn it's tonal nuances--but it does take some practice. In the times I have hunted trashy campsites, it has performed much better than DH's Explorer II and Xterra 305. Haven't done much hunting at all this year--too darned hot in TX! But I hope to catch a few parks etc over the winter.
Excellent on battery life, btw. I find the screen easy to read, though it is not back lit. I carry lights with me anyway, so if I want to read it in the dark, I use a light. IMHO all backlighting does is drain your batteries faster.
Also where you live is going to play a major role in how good it works.
AS they both have pre set ground balance.(tesoro told me the cortes only uses the ground balance in all metal) ; (
And there unstable out here on the west coast.
I would like to thank them for almost throwing me off there Boat because 3 of the detectors i wanted
Wont work Here.
I've been detecting for the past several years with the Deleon and several other detectors with a display and trading off with several beep and dig detectors. Quite frankly, although I like the displays, I can ID whether a target is likely a coin nearly as accurately by careful thumbing of the discrimination knob and listening closely to the audible tone as it changes. The main advantage to me with the ID machines is I can decide it's likely a coin more quickly. The thumbing the discrimination just takes a bit more time, but is nearly as effective with practice. I have gone past several likely junk targets that just sounded "off" not quite the normal junk tone, nor what I'd call a good tone, thought a second, went back and dug and ended up with small jewelry. This was with the DeLeon and shows that while target ID screens can be helpful, being in tune with the audio is always good with either type of machine. My two bits.
