Feal Sorry for you Guys Up North

I know for you Folks up North this is your off Season but believe it or not down here in Texas this is our best time of the year. The weather rarely gets too cold and this time of year the grass dies off opening up many places we can not hunt in the Summer.

Here in southern WI if you tried to dig a hole right now it would look like a Wil-E-Coyote routine ending with some kind of exploding shovel. You couldn't even CHIP the ground right now. Ever seen clay at -10 degrees? It don't move...at all. Good to hear you've got some opportunities in the south...

No reason to feel sorry for those currently under the blanket of winter.

After all, winter has it's advantages. Here's a few;

1. Winter and cold kills off the bugs. No fire ants in these parts. No mosquitoes in December.
2. I have winter to thank for the majority of my silver dollars and halves I've turned up over the years. Rings slide off easy when the hands get cold throwing snowballs. Love those ski resorts, sledding hills and parks
3. If you think rings, coins and other valuables disappear quickly on a sandy beach, try it in 2 or 3 or 15 feet of snow. Poof, gone.
4. The ground frost does all sorts of interesting things with buried objects as the ground freezes and thaws. (that's a great discussion in its' own right) Coins and other targets get moved around each year as the four seasons come and go.
5. Winter gives a person time to actually do a little research without feeling guilty that they could be out swinging the detector.

Now, I don't want anybody turning off their computer thinking I don't appreciate swinging a detector over a nice sandy beach. Check out the pic I took last week while on holidays with the family.
