FE & CO Numbers

Mike K (Ohio)

I've had my E-Trac for about a month and have maybe 8 hours of time with it actual time under the headphones. Having had all the explorer models this one is very different to me and it's been a while since I used a detector as I was pursuing my other passion which is photography. Well I sold my SE Pro and Ex II and bought an E-Trac. I know the importance of listening to the sounds and not paying to much attention to the screen but when looking at the digital read out are you guys really only concerned with the CO number or both the FE and CO? I see also of people making reference to this coin came in at 42 to 44 but hardly ever really see anyone make ref to the FE numbers. Just looking for a tip from you guys... Thanks in advance..

Mike.

Fe numbers can be all over. 90% of the time they will fall 11-17 with the Co #'s staying pretty consistant.

For instance.

12-42 is a very good wheat indicator. However on the next swing you might get 11-41, then 13-42, then 14-42. That would be a "diggable" signal. With collocated nails or other iron, 12-42, then 17-43, 15-41...etc. You see the Co's staying pretty consistant.

Having said that, I have personally seen numbers in the 20's on Fe side. The discr. pattern I use is black from 28 clear to 35. I have dug 01 Fe's with Indians...in Conductive tones (Ih's usually come in at 12-34 for me). I can't remember ever digging any other coins with a Fe of 01, just IH's.

NebTrac

Yep, Nebtrac pretty well summed it up. Listen to the tone first, if its repeatable, and the CO is in the zone you want then dig. You run a higher chance of digging iron when digging higher FE numbers, but thats the price you pay to find the coins that other machines miss.

I have had several very deep on edge silver coins read 1 fer. and 44-47 con. with a nice silver sounding warble.

Mike K,

I run Conductive sounds and block about 1/4 of the bottom of the screen. I dig anything where the target is on the right 40%, or along the 12 line area. I go by sound primarily, then depth as old stuff is generally deeper. I then check target position on the screen and then look at the numbers. After you use the
E-Trac for a while, you will you will start to get the hang of it. When I first get to a new spot, I dig about everything that peeps. That way I know how the machine is reacting to the soil conditions and can vary the program as needed. If there are targets all over making the detector sound like pop corn, I cut way back on Sens. Sens is simply a volume control. Remember that if you only dig perfect classic signals that you will be missing a lot.

I don't know about that...

The sensitivity is NOT just a volume control. It does exactly what the name implies.

I leave part of the FE 1 line open as big Silver will hit there ......I woudn't THINK of taking the enire line out .........I do not agree wth the Sensitivity being a volume contol ..... Not in the least ........ Jim
