FBS Vs BBS Frequency Spectrum

New member
The Sovereign uses 17 frequencies ranging from 1.5 kHz to 25.5 kHz. FBS machines use 28 frequencies ranging from 1.5 kHz to 100 kHz. I have yet to hear why such high frequencies are needed on FBS machines because 25.5khz is more than high enough to hit hard on gold rings and nickles. I'm not trying to start a model war here. I'm just honestly curious if anybody has ever heard reasoning as to why FBS machines would want to use such high frequencies?

Many of my sites are mineralized and my Explorers never seemed to run as good or as deep at these locations as my GT. My theory is that the higher frequencies on FBS machines are doing more harm than good in my soil by reflecting off the ground matrix. As a general rule of thumb many say that the lower the frequency the better it penetrates mineralized ground. What is your opinion on this? Again, not trying to start a model war here...Just curious to hear some honest opinions on all this. I've owned three Explorers over the years and could never get the depth out of them that others reported in other states. I feel it comes down to the ground mineralization and in my case BBS is more suited for it.

Feel free to disagree and to offer your own opinion here.

What you may be seeing is that the BBS has set freq in 1.5 kHz increments where as the FBS is random.... there has been discussions on NASA Toms site about the FBS freqs/channels which if you want a heck of a read from serious electro techs take a look. Also ML has an article by Gordon Heritage where he discusses manually setting the channels for best depth. It appears the freqs are randomly set.... but each channel only shift these freq very little much like other machines that have freq adjustment to compensate for hunting with other detectors or EMI. Lower freqs do handle meneralization better ... BUT the trade off is it doenst handle EMI. EMI can not only come in noticable chatter, but from silent EMI as well like static electrity. IF they were using more of the higher freqs the Exp would be a tad bit better on gold. But take the MXT and DFX.... the MXT is in the high 13kHz range and the DFX can be ran at 15kHz..... the MXT is just a better gold machine with that slight of a freq difference. The other thing we dont know is how it processes the signal because i use the Xcal and i can tell you it RINGS big time on nickels and targets in that range. I can tell a tiny size 3 gold ring easily with an Xcal, but the tones are very close to the tone you get off iron at IM 31..... has to be the factory set salt setting.
