FBS and gold. Has the CTX improved?

I used an E-Trac for many years, and have I learned that it (FBS) has a hard time picking up small pieces of gold, or even ring sized gold past medium depths.

My question is, does the CTX3030 suffer from the same handicap? Or has Minelab fixed this issue?

Yes, I am seriously considering getting one soon.

Thanks for your input in advance.

I had an Etrac and found plenty of gold,,, just not "micro jewlery" but you need to dig the tab numbers if ya wanna find au ,,,,,, I have already found a mans gold ring and a smaller 14k ring with the CTX and it was a 12.21 if I remember correctly,,, have not found any "micro gold" but have found small items of other materials with the CTX

Believe me, I dug it all when I had my E-Trac. The issue with gold and FBS is a known problem. I have done tests where my E-Trac simply would not pick up an obvious shallow gold object.

Do some searches and you will see what I mean. For example :

I can't say if Minelab fixed a problem. But I have done just fine on small gold in the water. When I can find one bead the size of a #4 shotgun pellet.I think that says plenty about the CXT.Having said that. The CTX is not a magic wand, but used right it will find gold and silver in places that I know have been hunted heavily many times over. And I will be the first to say that my ability with the CXT is limited. There are others here that can and will blow me out of the water with what they can do with this detector. #1 Learn your detector! #2 go back to #1 then practice, practice, practice.Grumpy
