Favorite pattern?

I have only had my X-70 a couple of months. I mainly hunt for coins using the preset pattern number one. I was wondering what pattern you prefer for coin hunting? Also, have you made any modifications to the preset pattern? Or, have you totally created your own pattern? Thanks to all.

Simply a matter of chioce. As a person who hunts for old coins at old sites, many of the places I hunt are farm fields where houses were 100 years ago. By running in all metal, multiple tones, I can hunt by ear. That means I've "trained my brain"" to ignore the audio tones of the items I don't care to dig. (the low tones of ferrous targets and the mixed harmonic tones generated by man-made metallic trash). And concentrate on digging those targets with tones I like! Higher tones, and those that are consistent. Patterns are simply a place to store the accept/reject programs that work for you. And what works for me is accepting all targets and letting my ears act as the discriminator. Doing so reduces target masking. And, when hunting a 40 acre field in search of where the building site was, all metal / multiple tone allows me to "hear" (nails, trash etc) when I am getting close to where the old buildings once stood. I don't stop to dig most of the low tones. But at least I know when I'm getting close to where I want to be. JMHO HH Randy

Well I run in pattern One. I can not handle the AM mode? My ears will not deal with it. I also have changed pattern 2 to a less noisy pattern. I know I am missing stuff that way but when i am tired I will use it. Different strokes so to speak, Beale.

I've changed pattern 3 to accept everything from -2 through +48 and hunt in 4 tones. I like hearing what is in the ground around me and I listen for the tones that I know to be targets I'm interested in. Often, I listen (not look) for signs of the "trash pit" or gathering area on a site and hit it with a small coil. My logic is that the landscape could have been much different in the past and what you see in the present may steer you to the clad and away from the good stuff.

My opinion only...
Mike

Thanks for the feedback. The AM sounds like a good place to start. I upgraded from an M6 and always hunted using the 7 tones with minimal disc. I don't mind all the music but I love it when the high tones sing through.

Thanks,
