I posted this on the relic forum so thought I'd put it here also.

I came across a book on an old mining camp in the special collections of the library that laid out the whole place - in feet from each other building no less. So I saw the old school house site and went there. We parked on the road and climbed through the fence and walked the given distance and viola ! there was a thin old slab. You can see it in the background. Right next to the slab I dug an 1879 silver dollar. What a thrill. That's my Fisher 1266 XB that I still use.

The three of us never dug another coin - I have to think I was the first one to find this site as no one would have missed the big silver - much less in the obvious place.
The whole mining camp area is open to the public and people go there frequently to 4 wheel and picnic. The other sites must have been detected already as we didn't find much in returning trips.
Do that research !! Steve in so az
