Faulty Tejon

Finally I got my second hand Tejon. Unfortunately it is not in working order. When I push trigger forward it does not enter in ALT DISC MODE, but remains in primary disc.

I guess is the trigger? Someone can help or had same problems?

Let me know.

Best regards,

Ale

Playing the devils advocate here, you do have to push and HOLD the toggle in the forward position for it to be in Alt Disc. If you just push and release its back in main disc. I assume you have waved targets in front of coil while adjusting the Disc setting, with no results, yet adjusting the disc in primary disc does get results? I would be welcome to talk to you about this if you feel like giving me a call. My cell is 608-213-6622. I am also asuming you didnt buy it from a dealer.

Hello,
Thanx for reply. Yes It does not work with trigger hold in forward position (on a sure target). I would like to search with main disc in all metal and alt disc on "foil", but when I push trigger and hold forward, threshold remains on...I tried to change main disc (that works perfectly) to iron and alt disc beyond foil, but no way, nothing happened, alt disc did not get in.

Lately, In a four hour hunting session, It worked properly only three times. Th resold became silent and alt disc entered.

A friend of mine has a tejon and I used it many times with no problems.

Btw, I sent a mail to Tesoro asking for their support, but no answers. I live in Italy, so I donno what to do.

Yes, I did not buy from a dealer.

Best regards,

Ale

If I understand you correctly, you are putting the machine in full-time all metal mode by clicking that main Disc knob all the way counter clock-wise. Then you are using Alt Dis to check targets but when you push the tigger forward you still hear the threshold tone of the all metal mode. It sounds like you either have a bad switch or a loose wire in the unit some place. I normally dont recomend people do this but since you are in Europe and sending the unit back is not your preference, here is what I would try. Open up the control box, carefully. I believe there are four screws holding the face panel on the box. There are a lot of wires connecting the face panel to the control box so be delicate as you pull the face panel away from the housing. In some cases, wires get pressed together and short when the wires are pressed into the housing to attach the face plate. Look them over, move them around, look especially close where they are soldered to each component looking for solder very close to other solder, or bare wire close to other bare metal. Some times during shipments the units get bounced around and insulation can get worn through causing a short. By moving the wiring around you may eliminate the short problem. I have on occassion, just by moving wires around in side the unit, been able to get a machine working normally again. It may be that your switch is defective so this may not help at all, but its worth a shot. If this doent work your only recourse is to send back to the factory. Good luck Ale.

Yes, I always work in all metal and check in alt disc.

It's a pity that Tesoro did not answer...

I'd like to take a new Cortes too, but if this is their behaviour, think that I'll turn away from Tesoro's.

Two months ago I bought an used 6000 XL PRO. It had meter foam pad consumed, so I wrote to White's USA to buy a new one.

Two days later, White's UK sent me a mail tellin' that two foam pads were on travel. Completely free. (thank You Mrs Margaret !!)

After this experience, I bought a DFX and a M6...I sent them some pictures of my finds and always got a nice feedback.

Best regards,

It seems at times Tesoro doesn't get back on their emails as soon as we think they should. But you can't beat Tesoro's service, I have called Tesoro and James himself answered the phone & helped me out. I would hate to see Tesoro loose you as a customer - it would be their lose & yours. Since Tesoro makes top quality detectors. Here is Tesoro's phone number 1-928-771-2646 hopefully you can call to the states with no problems from where you are. Good luck! Steve.

I emailed Tesoro once and didn't get a response in a few days. So I sent another email and they replied that same day. I don't know why the second email got a quick response and the first got no response, but I would attempt another contact. Email and/or phone call. Sometimes things just don't go as expected for whatever reason.

Hello Guys,
Many thanx for reply!

I think that our hobby implies a community spirit.

From the newbie to the prof, we finds out things to share, try to help each other to find peak performances, to solve problems.

If a dealer starts to have a "Major\profits" behavior, he betrays this spirit.

If Tesoro (that declares a lifetime warranty on its products) does not reply to our answer, it means that our problems are not important for Tesoro...no cute.

To ask for something is lawful, answer is courtesy. If You are not able to give a ready feedback to Your customers, then You are not a great dealer.

Btw, I 've just found a local distributor that will repair my Tejon.

All the best,

The metal detecting market may be lucrative but it caters to a small captive segment of our society. I don't think Tesoro is having a "Major\profits" behavior problem. Rather it's a small highly spirited company struggling to be a major player in a small, completive market. The "Major\profits" guy's don't even participate in their endeavors any more and have all their bases covered. I think if you compare the portion of the market that Tesoro shares with the mega guys, you will find it's like the tortes in a race with the hare.

Tesoro has the best warranty in the business and they back it up. They go beyond that by going out of their way to help people like you who don't even have a legal right to a warranty. All manufacturers state that their product must be registered in order to receive warranty service.

I have three used Tesoros and I know this fact. " Buyer be ware ".

Tesoro is not obligated to do anything for the owner of an unregistered product, but they do. That's commendable.

Cheers,

Also looking at the solder points, if any are dull (won't look like others), then i would do a re-solder at those points as they might have got a cold solder and this would be a resistive connection.

akille68:

Did you contact Tesoro. They stand behind their detectors 100 and 10 %..without fail.
Send it in..It will be repaired .Tesoro goes above and beyond anything required by them.
If they charge you a small fee so be it. It will not be much if anything...............and you will be happy.

I've dropped email questions to Three of the top detector companies including Tesoro. They all varied in response time, sometimes quite quickly, other times it took a while. I expect response time is tied to how many emails they've received versus how much time person(s) have time to work with them time out for weekends etc. Condemning Tesoro over email response time is way overkill in my opinion. They truly are a great company.
