I bought my wife an AT Pro last month. After firing it up, the first thing that I noticed was the dead silence until the coil passed over a target. Is it supposed to have a slight "mosquito type noise" like all my other detectors or does it run dead quite?
When I try to ground balace the unit, I get a reading of 95 on the panel, a continuous hum that does not change in frequency until I start to pump the unit. When I pump it, it produces a sound like a lot of constipated crickets for want of a better noise description that does not get quieter - it appears to be running at full volume level during ground balance. It doesn't matter what setting or location you try, the unit will not run quietly or smoothly unless you lift the coil up to about 2ft off the ground. This is where it quietens down a bit. I have been using detectors for 10 yrs now, spent over a thousand hrs detecting so I don't classify myself as a beginner. I have tried for years to get my wife into detecting but at the moment, she says I shouldn't have sold my E-Trac & mentions this AT Pro, a proctologist & my backside in the one sentence. Can any one offer a suggestion before I need to make an appointment with the local Proctologist? Thanks.
