Fat boy and the mountain

John 'n' W.Va

To get to the top of anything in life, you have to work at it. Well, it was hard for this fat boy to get to the top of this mountain.

I was glad to make it to the top. The old road from the early 1800's which is mainly used by 4 wheelers now, was a relief to walk. The bad thing though, I had to get off the road and go down a steeper hill then the one I came up.

20 years ago I took a poke of ramps and planted them all over this hillside. There wasn't any till I planted them here. For lunch, I will reap what I have sowed. If you eat ramps, you will never catch a cold. No one will come close enough to you, for you to get the virus.

Ramps are wild leeks. The flower is a trillium. The Indians thought trillium's was an aphrodisiac.

My destination. The early 1800's two room log cabin my mother was born and lived in for four years. After that she lived on top of the hill.

I didn't find any coins except a 1979 dime from the ridge road. This isn't the type of stuff I dug up in Fl. Big mistake,I showed my mother before I took these pictures. She kept a small white porcelain syrup pitcher and a small glass. They were things she remembers from her past. The two brass tag may have been my grandfather's from when he worked in the mines. I found the big hook in the fire place. Below the hook is a piece of metal that seems to be gold plated.
I MDed in the jewelry setting. I was hoping to find some jewelry or coins. All iron was picked up in that setting. There were hand saw blades, pieces of iron stove and much more that I wasn't going to carry out of there.

John, That is some mighty beautiful country! If you don't find anything worthwhile at metal detecting, you still have a treasure at your fingertips. Good luck, and enjoy the scenery along the way. Al
