"FAST" recovery question

When hunting private sites with relatively little trash, can using the FAST recovery selection sometimes work against you by shortening the response signal? I'll probably end up doing some tests myself, but I'm curious if you old timers use this selection all the time or only under certain conditions. Thanks.

I pretty much use it all the time, unless I am in a site where stuff might be real deep and I already picked off the rest of the stuff.. I have gotten things plenty deep using fast only and I like the way it gives a more single solid tone on good targets.. Most of my sites have lots of iron.. I never use deep in those sites. While I think it might boost up a target deep in clean ground, there also gain to mess with if you want. As for your question, I suppose if your going to fast in a clean site you might miss the initial hit, but then again if your in deep mode your supposed to go even slower

I always use the deep recovery. I hunt regularly with a friend that only uses the fast recovery and he seems to get more Indian heads than me but he does not get the depth and he passes a lot of silver.

Well yes and no. The gain and audio the same but my friend prefers to use Digital with the sensetivity wide open and I use Iron mask sens. around 22 or just a bit higher. I find that running it higher makes the machine unstable and I get a lot of false signals.

I seem to consistently get deeper coins than him. For whatever reason he seems to do well at the 5&6inch range but the targets below that he almost always passes. My friend has had his Explorer 2 years longer than me and with all the detecting we did in 2002 he only found 20 silver coins while i found 135. I feel that I have learned a lot about this machine and still have much to learn.

Has he checked some of your deep silver hits. There is something up with that.

How much deeper were your coins than the fast recoverer.?

Put a dime on edge at 4" and see how the Tesoro gos blind. The Eldorado is the only one that might see it. But dont go past 3 on the discrimination knob or the Eldorado gos blind too.
