Fast : On

The ground is still froze pretty good, but I discovered today that Fast/On is ideal in my backyard. I started out with factory settings and was getting a lot of nulling. I know for a fact that my yard has a boatload of iron. I was spending more time waiting for the detector to reset. Decide to turn fast on as an experiment, and all of these other signals were popping up in the areas that were solid nulls. It's a bit chattery if you can tolerate it, and I know I'm not supposed to stray from my "greenhorn settings"...but it just felt right...lol.

if it feels right you gotta do it go with the flow but that was good thinking on your part the faster recovery seemed to help you thats how you learn the explorers good luck to you

[size=large]i was reading andy's book again. the part on brce's deep coin settings. what you did is just what he suggested to do in high trash areas.
i think bryce said the differance with fast on or off, to him was the length of sound from the target hit.
anyway ya did the right thing on your very own. wtg.
this time ya won't be grounded for straying from the greenhorn line. but next time the big boys may have you sit out one or two hunts to learn ya a lesson.

nice, McDave...

So what is the NEGATIVE of running fast=on? Loss of a bit of depth?

Steve

Not sure about that. Did'nt seem to, but I will need to spend more time with it. The weather is just now beginning to cooperate a little. Ground is still froze about 6 inches down just about everywhere.

For me it chops the signal and in trash you could miss it. Ive still found both off to work best especially if you are moving and working the area slowly. Im one of the BAD guys who loved to play with the setting from the very beginning.

Yes, I have since gone back to "Off". I will probably throw it out there once in a while if I feel like experimenting. Besides, at this point my subconscious always leads me back to factory coins so I don't stray too far off track.
