Fast and Gain setting

By running the Gain setting at a high number, you loose the audio ability to determine what is deep. How much depth do you loose as a result of a gain setting of 5 vs. 10?
When running in DEEP, do you loose the ability to determine a deep target because everything is amplified, like the gain set at a high number?
If using DEEP, FAST and GAIN=5 or 10, in a trashy area, will you mask any shallow targets?

I dont think you lose any depth with any gain setting, just the ability to hear one easier than the other.. At least with gains set higher as 5 or above.. might lose them with gain set to less than 5. Same kind of goes for the fast or deep response.. although it does seem that deep will pick up suff a hair deeper than you can hear it to the point of it being a true target in fast.. never ran in fast and deep at same time..still not quite sure what that does. I think the important thing is to run it the way you like to hear the audio.. And I do think a too high gain in trash is gonna mix close by targets up too much, so that you may miss a quieter deeper signal nearby. Generally my preference is to run a gain around 5 in most areas, then when hunting parks/yards with deep stuff and fairly cleaned out. I up the gain to 7 and switch to deep mode and hunt slow..Most of my sites now have so few shallow signals left that I am not affected by masking.. at least shallow target masking.. My wooded sites have lots of iron, and I prefer a lower gain, as it quiets down the falses better enough to determine they are falses without too much checking.. high gain in iron can make you stop to check junk falses too often in my opinion... again a matter of preference o my part...Jim
