fast and deep question

grumpy

New member
Ok since i see i posted a question with the question backwards ill see if i can get my mind to do it right this time
Is it my imagination or is it correct that with the gain set the same and everything else for that matter , the fast on and deep on detects better than if the fast is on and the deep is off???? there i think i got it right this time sorry for the confusing post.

Thanks Much
Grumpy

I would not make a hard and fast rule about that. It depends on EACH site you hunt.

Not every site is as dirty and coins are not always littered with Iron trash, right? Some lawns are relatively clean compared to construction sites, and some sites are very OLD with lots of coins down deep. Not every site are the coins burried deep...we just keep thinking they are.

Lets say your on the very OLD historic site, coins are deep, and lots of iron exists, then yes, I would run them both. IF I'm running unstable then I may look at my SENSITIVITY / or try turning Deep off. If I'm running stable with a good SENS then I will first hunt with DEEP on then again with DEEP off to see if that made a new find or two.

Try them as you deem them to be use full to you
I run more with just Fast on in trashy sites then with Deep on.
I run more with deep on in historic sites where there is less trash.
Don't think that they are always better together.

I have done testing and I have come to the conclusion that deep on is not for me.....when deep on is used the numbers are skewed. I have much better luck using fast on, and deep off

Deep On and Fast On seem to make my numbers less accurate. I do get a little more depth, but they are all iffys because the VDI numbers are not as reliable. I prefer more accurate numbers myself. Seems to save digging a lot of deep iron.

Deep ON adds more filters supposed to help stabilize the numbers.
Fast ON turns OFF filters so machine seems to react quicker but numbers may be more jumpy and the signal is shorter or seems chopped.
Turning up the Volume Gain to about max setting will make the deepies come in loud Bryce does this with the Explorers and it works on the Etracs and Ctx's too.
If iron or trashy using Signal LONG a gentleman in Australia showed and found it makes good signals jump right out at you in the Conductive Mode.

I've always used Deep ON as the numbers are a little more stable and it seems to lock on the Deeper hits a little better. Also I like to run my gain at 18 for the modulation so Deep on gives the deep coins just a little louder sound as not to miss them,But not to much to take away from the modulation. This is just the way I like to hunt as I won't even consider having a detector in my aresenal without some type of modulated audio.
