Farm watzit

I found this at an old farm site from the 1800's. In another forum a few guys thought it was a window opener for windows out of reach.
It is 8" long made of brass and has remnants of wood from a handle that it used to attached to.
Has anybody have an other ideas on what it might be?

that is a window opener we had one in school just like it to open the windows above the doors,the knob part went thru a hole in the latch and you pulled the window open/push to close
