Are there any hunters that do the majority of their detecting with the explorer in farm fields or cellar holes , or are most of the people on this site park hunters ? The folks hunting the farm fields what coils do you use mostlty and what type of settings do you use ? Any advise would be greatly appreciated , I obtained a used Explorer Pro SE about two months ago and have been running it with the factory default settings and just incresasing the sensetivity to 26 to 28. I like the machine and the tones but not up to hunting with this for more than 4 hours. I probably have put about 60 to 70 hours in with it already . Thanks for your opinions and advise . Ezra.

Hey Ezra, use my Se in the fields all the time. I always use the 8x6sef. Works great, good depth and separation. I use Bryce's settings, only thing I may change is switching to manual sensitivity set at 28. Doesn't always work but if I can stand the falsing I run it. If not I switch back to auto. Good luck out there, Joe.

Surfman. Thanks for your reply and advice. I picked up a sunray X 8 and was possibly thinking about the X 12 over using the Pro Coil. Hope your getting those coins down at the beach .Will be in touch sometime in the future Take Care , Ezra

Hello,
I hunt fields when I can. My coil of choice is the Sun Ray 8" because there is usually quite a bit of iron and trash where I hunt (old home sites). If you have a productive field that is not so trashy, then you could go with a larger coil. My favorite way to hunt is in conductive tones with just a little iron mask discrimination. For fields though, I usually run ferrous tones with no disc. Then I dig almost everything that is not iron. It depends on the site, if it has modern trash then more disc. may be necessary. I never use auto sensitivity.
Hope this helps, HH - Robin

Big Fang Coin Biter , Thanks for the info, I will stay in auto sens. for now until I get a better feel for the machine but I will definately remember your advise for running manual at a later date. I really like the X 8 it does seem did get you through the iron and still isolate the good signals. I am going to check into the X 12, and the detech ultimate 13 for my open areas. thanks .Ezra.

I hunt fields quite often and use Bryce's settings too...and semi auto sensitivity most of the time to cut down on iron falsing if there is a lot of it present.
