Farm field finds

Here's the things I dug yesterday at a new field. Lots of ground to cover, 120 acres so it should keep me busy 'till snow flies. Also got a Nickle 3 Cent Piece, my first 3 center. Wish it was the silver variety. Maybe next time, Ron

That another one I have never found up here in Michigan.

I cleaned up the pic a bit, hope you don't mind. its kinda fun. ;) <center>

Nice find Ron. That is another one of those old coins that have avoided my coils for 35 years. In fact, I don't remember seeing very many posted over the years. Congrats! Which coil were you using and what was the TID?

I spent 5 hours out beating the corn stalks today and came home empty handed. Well, I did dig up some shotgun and rifle casings. But no coins. The darn rain has delayed harvest around these parts and I am afraid it might have to freeze up before the combines can get into some of the fields. Frozen ground makes it easier to harvest, but it sure makes it tough to dig coins!!! HH Randy

I was using the 10.5 DD and the TID was 22 if I remember right. Besides Nickels, 22 is usually lead or sometimes corroded shotgun brass casings and I was digging those so that's what I expected. Yeah I know, about the rain. I've been itching to get back to that site but I hear raindrops on the roof again this morning. We need the rain here, it's been such a dry summer, but enough is enough. Ron

I've not found nickels to register that high, but I have been digging more than my share of those pesky 12 ga. shotgun casings and lead slugs. If I happen to scan across one of those 12 ga. casings (brass or copper) laying perfectly flat, they'll lock on solid. But, fortunately, most of those I've wandered across are laying at an angle or on edge. Those readings are not consistent and I have been passing up on many of those. Probably missed that darn $5 gold piece on edge, didn't I?

Got up this morning to another beautiful, frosty day. Third day in a row with a killing frost. That'll teach those darn mosquitoes! Won't be long now until my hunting is reserved for the library and museum. Not looking forward to that. But I've got a few leads I need to follow up on for next Spring!

Thanks for the response. HH

Randy
