famous trails metal detector

I don't know, but I am going to find out. Walmart sells it online for $98, everywhere else they are around $250, even ebay. If you can't afford a Cadilac buy a Chevy, if you can't afford a Chevy buy a Ford, if you can't afford a Ford they you buy the cheapest. And a Md9600 falls into that catagory from what I have read.

Another Chinese import. Just remember, you get what you pay for. Give me an American made detector any day!!!

Yes I aggree 100%. But I already bought a 250 a month ago and yesterday a pinpointer. I will buy a good one in the future, probably next year. But for right now, I would rather have a cheap underwater detector than none at all. Its either this cheap one or I miss the whole summer. I figured "maybe?" I would get lucky and find a few rings out in the deeper water with the cheapy, enough to buy a better US made one for next year. Then sell the cheap-o for what ever I can get for it on ebay. I understand you guys point, but you have to understand mine too. I am 55, house is paid for, I don't spend what I don't have, and I don't charge, that's probably why I have a 802 credit rating . I am patient, next year I will have a better one. Probably look all winter on ebay for a good used one.

You make a good points but if you have time to use a machine get a good one and it will pay for itself a lot faster than a junker .I would many times over rather go in debt for quality than pay cash for inferior equipment.Interest is low and the rewards of using a good machine are generaly far greater than using a cheap machine.

If you walk over one very good ring that is out of reach of the cheap machine but easily within the reach of a good quality machine all your good points you mention can be thrown out the window and will not hold water.Just my opinion but believe I am not alone as I speak from experience, the best teacher many times.

The bottom line is there is no substitute for quality be it paid for with cash or credit or received as a gift,Ray

but if you can afford to buy one at 90.00 with tax you should be able to find an ace250 used for another 10.00 or 20.00 and water proof it

this time of year I don't think so. Before I bought my new 250, I watched ebay and other online sites for a used one. The used 250's where going for $175 and up. Besides I want something to submerge completely. And the 250 is such a good MD I would not want to take the chance and ruin it, even if I had a 2nd one.

I was going to try to get a Pioneer 202 used on ebay and try to waterproof it, but they was going $80 and up. With this cheap-o neptune, for the first 3 months it doesn't matter if it shorts out and goes haywire, Walmart's warranty for store returns on defective MDer's is 90 days and factory warranty is 1 year. Buy this time next year I plan on getting a good used underwater MD. Yes I know we should buy american, but dang. It seems like 75% of whats in the poor mans store is foreign made. One thing for sure, I never have and never will buy a foreign car. I'm a CHEVY diehard!

Anyway, yesterday I tried it out for the first time in deep water. The Parks lake is a old gravel pit bout 25 acres, clear water, with only about 100yds of beach. Here is what I got in 1-1/2 hrs. My first deeper water hunt. Got Five quaters, 2 pennys, a ring, a ear ring, some junk, and 3 pieces of heavy rock that I assume is iron ore. I am not praising this cheap-o, only saying if you don't have the funds, start at the bottom and work your way up to the good US ones.
