I previously posted the small medal from the Ladies of the Grand Army of the Republic, but looking through my great-grandma's stuff I found these two medals from the "Daughters of Liberty!" One of them is from the "Sons and Daughter of Liberty", which wasn't formed until after 1915..? That allowed men to join the organization also.
Today, you can't join the D.O.L. unless you can prove you are related to someone who fought in the American Revolution, but I always asumed that Grandma was a tough old Irish gal that came over during the Potato Famine in Ireland! Maybe my dad's family was in this country longer than I imagined, although they seldom discussed the matter. I shoulda asked more questions when I wuz a little kid, huh? The G.A.R. medal is about 2-1/4" long, and these two are about 4-1/4" inches long. -- Ol' Frank
