Falsing Question

Been using the ctx for about 3 weeks now and running in coin mode. I loaded gh's open pattern and have been playing with it. Got some good two targets with a high silver tone mixed with iron and junk. I spent some time passing over it until I dug. I really searched the hole and all that was there was nails. I tried auto sens a,1, 2, with the lower being the best in this soil. Is there something I am doing wrong or missing? Any thoughts would help.Thanks.

A little more info would help.

Do you know the level of your sensitivity?
Do you know your ground mineralization level? (I think I get more falsing in my iron mineralized ground than say, in clean ground).
Were your "good signals" four way signals, two way signals, sporadic signals, etc?

Generally I find that when signals blend they aren't good per say. But, it's hard to describe it. There is a difference between a blended signal and a coin signal in iron.
I can usually tell iron falses as they just don't repeat as consistently as a coin. By consistently I mean exactly in the same spot and on each swing. Even if the signals are softer, they should still be consistent (unless you are in heavy iron).

Of course we all dig some trash as coins in iron require us to.

I'd also try running both 50 Conductive (with some disc) and compare it to Combine on targets. Combine does seem to reduce falsing in my ground over 50 CO, but combine misses the occasional good ones due to that.

Very true info here. The CTX 3030 is NOT a E-Trac. With the E-Trac sometimes you can force a 50/50 signal to turn out good. Not so true the the CTX. If the CTX says its bad (ID bounces around and not good audio in more than 1 direction) its always been bad for me. I have ALMOST gave up digging bad signals but I cant quite shake the mentality if the E-trac. I am a slow learner I guess. ha ha The CTX is that much better!

I guess I'm the same way. Its sometimes hard but every iffy signal so far has been junk. I guess I'm just looking for the one that is good so that I will not miss anything in the future. But if that one "good" target ends up being a zincon then I will not be digging any more iffys. Hahahaha

I was running auto. I tried a,1, 2 . High Trash on.The signal was a 4 way repeatable. There is some heavy mineralization in certain spots from dissolved iron. I was like, cool ,I am scooping some null-ed out silver, but alas, it was iron. I am trying to shake my etrac ways and this will take time. In coin mode the sounds of silver are sweet and clear. This is what fooled me. I guess I need to spend more time and dig more junk until I figure this out.

I went through the same thing Steve. I was starting to go crazy. Now with over 100 hours on the machine, and the help
from all the guy's here with video's and posts, I dont dig false's anymore. and you wont either.

I am finding on those signals, they only way to tell, is when I pinpoint. I have yet to have falsing(rusty nail, rusty bottle cap) pinpoint in wiggle back and with the trigger in the same spot. Both pinpoint in wiggle back in the same spot but, most of the time nails will pinpoint back and to the left using the trigger. Rusty pop caps hit up and to the right.. thats an average...

hope this pic makes sense...

Evan - Some nice info in there. I hadn't thought of or experienced all that you were saying and need to take some notes! Thanks.
I think I noticed but didn't take in what you are saying. In other words, on a nail you get the beep in one spot (apparent center), but then when you pinpoint it moves off that center?

Bart - Yes, the CTX is VERY GOOD at giving good info on good targets. I have dug some coins and a ring lately that was an iffy signal. But I agree with you - with the E-Trac you could coax a good signal in a way, not on the CTX. It seems like a lot of processing is going on.

Steve - I mean what was the auto level at? 20, 25 ???
I asked about your ground mineralization as I have it and can probably relate it to your situation then. But Even gave some good advice to apply no matter.

I will give the pinpoint a try. I have the program set up exactly as your video. I did not try pinpointt because I thought it would lock on the iron.

I too have seen some of what evan is saying. If you try to get an idea in your head where the target sits in the ground, then by pinpointing, if it is not where you thought high chances you are looking at trash. I also have seen rusty screw caps do not have the same trace it is long and scatterd. I have tried digging nearly 50 iffy targets and have also decided then CTX just does not do iffy atleast so far. However, each area can be different and what works for one place may not work for others. Great info from all you guys I think we are all learning from eachother and the finds prove it.
