Falsing Problem Resolved

This summer while relic hunting my E-Trac would start falsing wildly for no apparent reason. I tried every fix I could imagine with no success until today. While hunting this afternoon the falsing started and I decided to check the coil connector. It appeared to be reasonably tight but I re-torqued it as tight as I could without tools and to my amazement the falsing went away. What I found out was even the slightest amount of relative motion (microinches) on the socket pins would cause the falsing. The faster the coil was moved, the worse the falsing. My impression is that the socket puts insufficient squeeze on the pins and the connection can be corrupted by the coil swinging motion. I ordered two sets of non-marring plastic pliers and plan to put a good preload on the threads from now on. The E-Trac is now dead quiet.

Whites uses a larger connector since it doesn't have to go through the shaft and it appears to be a better option.

I wonder if your female pin receivers need to be bent inwards a little bit to get a better bite on the male pins. I had a problem with false foil signals, it didnt help with that problem (Minelab fixed it) but it couldnt hurt, just dont break them.
