Falsing/Chatter Normal?

Shayne

Is it normal for the AtPro to false and or make chatter-like sounds every time the coil touches the ground - particularly in wet sand? Generally, my manual ground balance in water is 10, wet sand is 13-17 and dry sand is 80. Thanks...

That number range is supposed to be after the falsing issue was fixed, But, I just sent mine in today for some screen and pin pointing issues and my serial number also started with 511. I would call Garret in the morning and ask them directly. As a matter of fact i think your S\N is only a few numbers off of mine.

Greg, could you describe your pinpointing issues? I have already had my AT in to Garrett for the falsing issues, but PP seems to be
erratic. Even after pressing it well away from target it then wants to sound off (pp signal) everywhere but over the target. also on occasion
it will give a signal and then just fade away to nothing.

One thing to remember about pinpointing. It uses the all metal mode and even though you picked up a nice 86 signal, that does not mean that is the target that is going to be pinpointed if there are also several iron objects close enough to be under the coil at the same time. Sometimes I resort to not using the pinpoint feature at all and just wiggling the coil back and forth listening to the target tone while moving coil back from the target until the tone stops hitting. The target should be just off the tip of the coil then.

Hope this helps.

Jerry

Sounds sorta like mine. At times when i pinpoint the machine goes silent. Other times it works. I go by sound since the screen is tilted low. One time it stayed in PP mode untill i pushed the button again.

Greg/Jerry, thanks to both for your reply. I do use the "wiggle" and it works most of the time, but on deeper/faint targets is where
the PP gets a litte testy. I was on a beach (drive on) here in NE Fl. and the AT would pick up the Navigator at about 3 or 4 ft. Later
while pinpointing and getting a steady lock-on signal no matter where I put the coil it occured to me that I might be picking up the Babbs scoop I was dragging behind.:surprised::surprised: I do really like the AT and won't give up easily. Thank you guys for the ideas.

My did the same thing,I had some chatter on wet sand i was 2 feet from the water line. I don't remember what it ground balanced to but it was not in the low numbers.

BOTTOM LINE ......I know I will calch a lot of flack from this because someone always has a miracle beach , or a miracle machine , but this is the deal !!......There is no single freqency machine that will work well on wet saltwater beaches .....Will it work ? ...Yes !!.....Will it work WELL on ALL wet saltwater beaches that have high concentrations of black sand and high salt content ? .....NO !!...... Anytime you have a problem on WET saltwater beaches , you have to manually ground balance your machine , and you will end up turning down the sensitivity also or be prepared to listen to noise .....Just the nature of the beast ....I don't care WHAT BRAND machine it is .... One thing I noticed about the AT Pro. It is very easy to de-tune the target with pinpoint mode. On mine I have to go way off to the side and push pinpoint. Then I sweep back over the target area. If I push pinpoint while over the target it will almost always de-tune the target. Sometimes to the point of silence. Every model detector out there will de-tune the target to some degree. My At Pro seems to do it on steroids. I can deal with it because I am aware of it. And on shallow targets it helps to raise the coil to narrow the field.
