False Signals

Seawater

New member
I was wondering if someone could give me some advice. Last night I was in the woods. As I was a couple of days ago. I kept getting on and off signals. I would pass over an area and get a signal. Pass over again and get nothing. It would come and go. It seems when I'm in deep woods it does this. I've dug a couple of times but have gotten nothing. Is there something I'm doing wrong? If I am getting a positive hit will it be consistent all the time? I'm still learning...:(

Hello seawater there's two things i do when i get falseing or a ghost signal # 1 check sensitivity (maybe too high), #2 reground balance > i have noticed in my ground i need too ground balance every so often also if you get a good repeatable signal it will stay repeatable unless you have it notched out. Also something else too try maybe you are hitting deep iron if you suspect somethings up hit iron audio "on" in pro-mode if its deep iron you will know but also listen for those "high" tone chirps you could have a good Target amongst iron. Hope I'm correct and i helped you out. SAS

Seawater - This has been the main issue with my unit since day one. Sasquache's post has some great advice, but I've found that the only thing that eliminates these falses on my AT Pro is to drop the sensitivity down to two or three bars. At this setting, my unit doesn't false but I do lose signifigant depth. Others claim on that their units retain good depth at these lower settings so give it a try. I just got mine back from Garrett and still trying to figure it out. Good luck.

All great advice, but the other day I was at the local park and my ATP started falsing like that. Played with it until I noticed some power lines overhead, once I moved away my falsing stopped. Also heard if your batterrries are getting weak that can cause it.

I have two sports complex's near me that are a challenge to hunt because of EMI. Some of it is a huge power line and some of it is from ground mounted transformers. In order for me to hunt this area I need to reduce the sensitivity 3 or 4 bars or more. It does not affect depth as much as one would think, I still find a lot of dimes at 6 inches.
I am lucky enough to live in a relatively rural area so most places I go are pretty quiet and do not have EMI problems.

I was last night detecting in some woods next to a large power plant near where I work. I have a feeling this was a factor now. Also, I'm watching Tutorial#4 on the ATPro and it is saying adjust the frequency adjust button until you get to a different frequency when this happens.
