False signals

I was told by an expert, why I get a signal every time my coil touches a rock, branch, etc. when gold hunting with my GM4B. He said 3 things cause this.. I forgot what they were.. Can anyone help me? I like the White's, but can't seem to stop all the signals.

Too High Sensitivity, Vibrations of the coil (Hitiing Rocks or Branches), and EMI (Electro-Magnetic Interference - Power Lines, Radios, Cell Phones, Burried Cables, Other Detectors)

HH,

Hitting rocks and creosote bushes, trying to get underneath them is the problem using the hotfoot. When I use my fisher gold bug 2, this never happens. I can almost use my GB@ like a weed whacker, and no problems. Sensitivity is one of the 3 things this expert told me to lower, but it still falses. the coil was checked out and is ok.

Dirt inside the coil cover?

Dont' rule out a coil problem or even something inside the detector. My Tesoro stingray was giving me fits and Rusty at Tesoro told me all he could find was a coil a little out of tune, and that fixed it. My Fisher 1236 was falsing like carzy and the speaker had come unglued and was floating around on the circuit board. If it's not you it could be the machine.

coil related problem. Some coils suffer from too much harmonic problems from internal windings that are loose and move when the coil strikes a rock or bush. I have had problems with a White's factory coil, but every time they took care of it quickly. Some aftermarket coils, however, have been an issue for me in the past with no repair or replacement provided.

Try a different coil and the same bumping use and determine if you have a coil problems or detector problem.

Also, while we can bump into things during a hunt, detectors were not really made of or intended to be whacked around on things.
