false signals on my Excalibur 11

JOHNMARKHAM

New member
i need help, i have an Excalibur 11 and while at beach in wet sand i experienced false signals while hunting today, now my settings are on discriminate at 6 and sensitivity at 3.5 , can anyone advise me if this is correct mode??or am i doing wrong??:surrender:

Do you have the problem in wet sand consistently? If you're working a beach and having the problem but not having the falsing at other beaches it could be that particular beach.

Could be there is some black sand there, a heavier concentration of small iron junk or some other oddball condition.

Disc isn't something that would affect a "falsing" issue.

If you hit the same beach again try switching the sensitivity to 'auto'. If it runs stable that way then adjust the sensitivity manually until you get good, stable operation. There are some beaches that I have to go to 'auto' because there is so much iron junk manual setting of sensitivity isn't practical.

I doubt you are doing anything wrong.

Run Disc, Volume as loud as needed(I run mine wide open), Threshold barely audible, Sensitivity on around 6, but not more than 5(you are adjusted WAY too hot here at 3.5) and Discrimination on 1(leave it there on the beach, if you want to find gold). Best of luck and let us know how it goes out there now.

GH,

Are you saying the LOWER the Sensitivity ex (3.5) is MORE than Sens at (6) .????? am confused now for sure!!!!

Will get my Excal 800 back from Minelab today and will play with this setting.

OK, my bad it should have read, no more than 7. I do not own an Excal II and that is one of the things, that is hard to remember between the 2. It is the opposite of the Excal I. As you turn the knob, towards AUTO, sensitivity is increased, although numerically it is opposite between the 2 models, savvy?

wow thanks for all responses, ill try this weekend when i go back to beach, ill go to same beach and see whats going on,many thanks..:clapping:

GH,

You have to forgive us old people we are confused easily. BTW got my Excal 800 back and can't wait to try it out. Had it tuned up and Robert boosted the volume by 70% so I can hear it a little better. (Tough being old and DEAF)

LOL! I'm 46 and my wife STILL has to repeat herself! Could be selective hearing, eh? Did you get Gray Ghosts? That would help tremendously, imo. Glad you got the rig back and I'll be lookin' forward to a FULL REPORT! Robert is THE MAN over there, don't like anyone else tuning on my Excals, but him.

GH,
At 59 it is NOT selective hearing...No Can't swing the GG at this time, work is real slow ... only getting to work two to 3 days a week should pick up in a few weeks I hope.

I understand, we are a little slow now too. ASAP, get a set though. Once you try them, you will never go back to the Koss. Better in every way, except they are a little more trebly, but well worth it otherwise.
