False signal with DFX

Well-known member
While hunting in the relic mode last Saturday I got two good signals reading in the upper 70s. But, when I hit the trigger to check depth there was nothing. I would walk off and come back from different angles and get the same signal but the screen would not return anything on the depth and there was no audio signal.
What could cause this?

Could you be getting a reading at he edge of a larger iron target? If you have a chance to get back there, see if you have some negative numbers adjacent to where you had the false positives. What is your DC setting?

Are you sure you're pulling the pinpoint trigger to the side of the target, before going over for the pinpoint? Because if you pull the trigger right over the top of the target, you will have tuned it out, leaving nothing. Other than that, it sounds like something that someone would have to be there to know what you're doing, and what you mean. Because this is one of those "sounds" type of question, that is nearly impossible to answer in printed text. Ie.: how do you describe a sound? It can't be done. It has to be heard/seen, to be diagnosed.

Thanks for the info. I am pretty sure I have been pulling the trigger off to the side because I have no trouble with other targets. Now, I am going to show my ignorance because I don't know what a DC setting is. I am not an advanced detectorist. I hunt in the factory loaded relic mode 99% of the time because the sites I hunt are not very trashy. How do I tell what the DC setting is?
As far as the sound issue. It is the same short, solid beep that you get when going over a silver coin.
