False positives?

Last week I just purchased an XS with the X-1 probe and Sunray X-8 coil and finally had the opportunity to use it today.
Being in coastal NC, I had the chance to go to the beach, a local park and school. At each site, I found that I was getting lots of loud (24 + in digital mode) signals but when I would swing back over the signal or pinpoint the position, there was nothing. Every time I received repeat signals there was something there (this was somewhat encouraging).
I found it frustrating that I was back tracking only to find nothing most times (80% maybe). I was in Quickstart mode with all of the preset setting except for selecting out bottle caps, etc. Is this typical to get so many false positives? I'm sure there is a way in "advanced" mode to help the situation, but I wouldn't think this should happen in either mode. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Steve

Sounds like falsing to me ..Turn sens down, try manual (no little box scrollin arond it) at 20 or so..Just to get used to it.Sorry cannot remember what factory preset was....Ohhh just remembered mine would false off my sand scoop unless I put it in the back of my shorts, couldnot carry it hooked in front pocket (was running 26 or 27 manual at the time)hh cs <IMG SRC="/forums/images/csflag.gif" BORDER=0 ALT="::">

Also, if you swing so far as to tip the coil up at the end of your swing, that can cause a false. If you are getting them at the end of your swing try narrowing your swing path.

Try cutting back on your sensitivity until you get an almost constant threshhold tone, then try slowing your swing down. Works for me. HH-Coinshooter65.
