Fake teknetics

I heard about the Fake teknetics going around and was wondering if this also includes the omega 8000 line.
I just bid on a new omega 8000 which had buy it now or best offer and I offered $125 under the price.
they took the offer. seems like something fishy here.
I will let you know if it is real.
I asked for the serial number so I can check on it but have not received an answer yet. This person is a power seller and has 100% positive for over 30,000 items.

Hi David, where is this power seller located, and what kind of stuff does he normally sell? If he normally sells imported stuff or stuff from china or Asia then I would suspect the item. Its possible he is legit and the detector is legit but or he just didnt know when he got them or it. Just thought he was getting a great deal. But safest unless you know someone or have dealt with them before, do just like you did...get a serial number. If they wont respond I would contest the sale then and you would have a good reason to if they wont provide a serial number. Not with fakes gong around of one model. Makes sense that another model could have fakes too.

Good luck on finding a serial number. I can't find one on mine. From what I see if there is a serial number it is inside the works. The warning was for fake T2's and Mike Scott did not say anything about Omega. I think they did the fake T2 because they were selling so high a while back with the African goldrush. The Africans probably don't know the diff between fake or not. Heck, I don't know the difference.

I got my doubts it is fake but maybe the Omega caught the Chinese eyes too. I would call 1st Texas and ask if there were any known Omega fakes and about a serial number.

I looked the seller over - you are fine - I also see the price you paid - believe me the dealer is making money on the detector - I would doubt very highly that this machine is a fake or the dealer is selling a fake one. I would go ahead with the purchase - I'm not sure where you find serial numbers on the )-8 - I do have one and can't find it.

be careful!..don't get 'slammed!"

Well, I looked on the box mine came in and found what I figure is the serial number for both the control box and the coil also. So they must be internal..or you might have to look in the battery box itself. Thats where alot of the outfits put the serial numbers, not on the outside where the stickers can can worn off. I havent pulled mine out of the case to look but I have looked for the serial numbers on other detectors and that is where I found them most of the time. In the battery case/holder/spot...whatever.

The dealer I bought my O-8 from told me the O-8 has no serial #. I have also read on other sites that all you need is your receipt to obtain warranty service.

That may be what that dealer said, but I have found what I can only say is a serial number on the box mine came in. One for both the detector itself and one for the coil. And then a seperate part number for the entire thing. So which is it then? I see no reason for a factor printed label to carry what seems to be a serial number for the detector contained within. Just like most other makers of detectors do. They place the serial number of the detector on the box label. Whites does it, so does Garrett. I have boxes from both. The placement, design, and information on the box label for the omega is not really any different. Also, my receipt for the omega that I recieved from MY dealer lists the same numbers.

I contacted the factory when I found my omega w/o serial numbers. They said they do not put serial numbers on them, just put your receipt in a safe place for 5 years

Well, that is great. How many of us normals hang onto reciepts for 5 years. Sheese. Thats what registrations and serial numbers are for. I guess they know that and its a way of saying they have 5 year warranty and likely not have to worry about covering it. Oh well, guess I gotta learn to hang onto receipts.

well first of all. These omega's and T2's have had a good run since the goldrush of africa...so well, that detectors are selling for retail prices.Just because you got a good deal on your omega doesnt make it a fake...the truth is there should be a lot more leaway on these prices..who the heck pays retail? well..when a machine is hot!!! it's hot!!!....And these guys can name the price..i dont have nothing against a dealer making money, but things have changed as far as bargaining a price goes...some will deal...and those are the guys i deal with..now as far as Fake tecnetics...well...i bought a fisher 1236x2 a couple years ago and it had made in taiwan right on it...i think most of you would be surprised how much your new fishers, tecnetics, bounty hunter and much more are pretty much made overseas....so.......fake? naaa...no such thang...

good idea!..may come in handy someday!

Well, I just purchased a T2 to add to my arsenal of detectors and purchased it from a long standing dealer, with whom I've done business before. I've always received A1 products and superb service from them. I also contacted Mike Scott to verify the dealer stock and was given the stamp of approval. You just need to keep your receipt for warranty service (if needed) and there is no registration process. BTW, some friends of mine have owned the T2 for quite a while and they've done exceptionally well. I've seen them kick the daylights out of some superb detectors. I decided to try one, because I like using a particular detector for certain types of digs. I have to tell you that my results absolutely blew me away. I was explaining to another friend of mine that I was going to purposely take the T2 to a site that I knew had lots of clad and a whole bunch of trash. Normally, where the trash has piled up, I head out with my 5" coil, but they were bragging how great the 11" stock coil was and I should try that first. Well, I was truly amazed at the recovery speed of the T2 and was picking quarters, dimes, etc., right amongst the trash. Learning what to listen for with the quick change of the signal makes all the difference. The coins I recovered ranged in depth from surface (just a few) to as deep as 8 inches and with the strength of the signal at 8 inches, that T2 will go much deeper. I was out for 3 1/2 hours and recovered over 60 coins and a silver pendant. I went very slow to help learn the machine and only had to cover a very small area to find those items. Whenever I add a machine, I always head to that spot first, because it's a magnet for clad and the occasional piece of jewelry. The interface is extremely easy to use and "fastgrab" for Ground Balancing is a snap. However, getting back to the main issue, always purchase from a reputable dealer that isn't looking for the quick buck that gray market offers and as always, "BUYER BEWARE". DO YOUR HOMEWORK AND SAVE YOURSELF A LOT OF GRIEF!!
