Fairly new to Relic hunting

Larry (IL)

Well-known member
I just got bit by the history bug last year even though I have been hunting for 30 years and have a whole new perspective of the American Civil War. For some reason history is a lot more exciting than what it sounded like in history class many years ago. The other forums don't seem to have the same enthusiasm that I have when I post there so I thought I would share here on the Relics forum. The last picture is my display from last years finds and the plate is just modern eye candy but the rest was found here in Illinois.

Here are some pictures of my last several hunts, the first one (blue background) is when I went hunting in Louisiana and the rest are from right here in Illinois:

You got some nice eye candy there. Some of those places you have been may deserve another look. Dig the bat wings. In twenty five years of hunting I have never dug one.

Larry, Looks like ya got a good start on the "Dark Side" Alot of folks just don't understand why we just want to dig the old rusty iron and tarnished brass. Don't get me wrong, I would not turn down a good coin site, but most of the parks in my area have been beat to death. I also love the solitude of being out away from prying eyes and the kids that bug you to death. Digging a piece that has layed in the ground for over 150 years is where it's at. Also wondering who the last person to handle the relic is facinating. Some how the old home sites and camps have more to tell than just digging a coin out of a park.....HH Mark

I still love that old spur strap end piece on the blue "carpet". Nice job buddy.... CCH

Thanks EJ, that WAS a dandy find, there were not to many spurs made with that kind of strap end piece. With a few days in the forecast for the 40's, I just might get a chance to get back out once or twice more yet this year.

I use to only coin hunt then I went relic hunting with a friend hardly ever coin hunt anymore. Nice finds Larry.

I FOUND THIS CADET EMBLEM IN A EMBANKMENT IN S.C., CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME IDENTIFY THIS OBJECT?
IS IT CIVIL WAR ERA OR IS IT A CUB CADET LAWNMOWER PART?

What a collection
