Fairgrounds Park St. Louis hunt

New member
Big Digger and I went to St. Louis to hunt this park for a few hours even though we were warned it wasn't so safe.

Bryce couldn't get the day off but he told us an area where he did pretty well and found his first bust dime at a few years ago..so that is is the end of the park we stayed at and concentrated on.
He also told us to get there after the "overnighters" had awakened and left:biggrin:...and to be out of there well before darkness started to set in.

Luckily no problems hunting though and I was able to find a few keepers for the day.
It was an interesting place to hunt to say the least...and exactly how it had been described to us.
Also hunted Lafayette Park but made no finds there.

Here's my finds from Fairgrounds Park...and thanks for looking.

Conjgrats on the finds Dave.----You guys are big strong young guys but be careful in some of those places.----Enjoyed your post & pics!----------Del

Beautiful finds Dave! I am glad you have someone to hunt with in areas like this. I hunt alone so I have to pick my time rather carefully. (like early Sunday morning) when "they" are in their 2nd hour of sleep. Even then I am extremely cautious. It stinks as there are some other real old parks and 1 park on top of a 1700's settlement in the next town over from me but my gut instinct tells me not to do it -and so I don't... Thanks for sharing - Jim

Congratulations Dave and Big Digger on all your finds  I'm more happy that you both got out of there without no trouble, sometimes it can be pretty difficult as me and Bryce and others just about found out one evening :help:. You to stay safe and happy hunting....yeti

Nice finds...

I kid you not:surrender:
After the initial 2 shots possibly letting us know we were "not welcome" though...we heard nothing else and had no problems.
I guess it could have been firecrackers but I have heard enough gunshots to know what one sounds like.
Couldn't tell where they came from as we parked on the end where the gas station was.

i was born and raised in north st louis. this message is to discourage people from going too or hunting fairgrounds park. that is the heart of the ghetto, i doubt the police would respond to a person being robed in the park. they will shoot you from one of the vacation building with a high power rifle then take all your belonging. you were very very lucky you had no problems

prayin' your parachute opens after pulling the cord.:bouncy:

I think I have hunted there at least once each summer over the last 6 years and each time I learn something new.

NOT about detecting:rolleyes:...but more about survival in territory I'm unfamiliar with... and sure as heck am not welcome at.

I remember my first trip there...it was like something you see in movies or read about in the newspaper.

At that time I honestly didn't know places like that actually existed anywhere else.

I absolutely LOVE hunting that place but anymore it's gotten so bad that hardly any of my friends will go there with me...and I sure as heck ain't goin' there by myself.

Just not much call these days for a personal trainer with gunshot or stab wounds:bouncy:...and I have to pay the bills.

I remember hunting there the first time many years ago with a feller who used to post here under the user ID "holedigger" and his name was Dennis Adams whom I met through the St. Louis detecting club Midwest Coinshooters.

I found my first bust dime there with him that day...but it has become a much LESS safe place to hunt ever since.

Depending on what time you arrive...AND what time you choose to leave...It's the kind of place you need to shoot your way in the front door...then knife your way out the back:bouncy:

IF anyone hunts there...be CAREFUL...and NEVER go there unless you have at least 2 others with you.

Dave...B-Rad...glad you two came back in one piece and made some good finds.

Next time I'll just take the day off work and go with you...but I just had too many personal training appointments stacked up that day.

I used to hunt both Fairgrounds park and O'fallon park in the mornings and early afternoon. Never left before 1PM without a problem. Probably 200 trips mininum. It's a lot safer now as they know you might/probably are carrying. Of course the Peoples Republic of Illinois bans things like self protection in order to keep the gangs fed safely in Chicago so those guys downstate cannot protect themselves in the park. :(

We still go over there occasionally but maybe not right after the election if Obama loses. They've been threatening to riot...
