[/img] Worked the machine gun pit today the reason i call it that is it is solid signals and you have to go very slow with the pizza size coil still waiting on the 6 inch coil. First signal was a 12.07 solid at 5 inches 1915 liberate Cuban coin think its nickel then i get a 12.30 12.35 at 7 inches dug down out comes a 1906 v nickel sweep it again 12.35 dug a little more and out comes a 1907 Indian sweet.ten minutes later a 12.35 to 12.43 at 8 inches dug out a small nail then a 1911d barber dime 5 feet away get a solid 12.43 at 8 inches dig out a 1912 barber starting to feel good now Lot's of noise for the next hour and no real good signals. so i move to the other side of the pit this area is about 100 by100 feet any how get a solid 12.43 at 5 inches dig out the plug and flip it over and 2 mercs are staring at me check the hole and no more signals .working my way into the pit deeper i get a 12.47 at 5 inches dig out a Indian silver ring nice and heavy . Moving along i pickup a couple wheat's 1919 and a 1938 came in at 12.39 at 6 and 7 inches deep some more beaver tails and assorted junk I get a 12.43 12.44 at 9 inches dig down 6 inches signal still in hole dig down about to 10 inches signal still in hole pinpoint again says in middle of hole so I start to dig deeper and see a barber dime on edge stuck on the side of the hole at 6 inches 1907 the barbers I got today are really in good shape all are full liberty's. As always I was running open screen, combine, ferrous coin, fast on,Set up on tones is 1 to10 200hz 11to15 1000hz 16 to 30 600hz and 31 to 50 at 1000hz ferrous at 120hz set at 24

Wow, that's a good day. I have an area that is similar that I found coins from the mid 1800's in. It has been way too hot and muggy the last couple of weeks. As soon as it cools off I will try it. Your post is encouraging.

Congrats looks like you had a fantastic day those are some nice finds

Great group of finds. Congrats! HH Randy

Very nice finds, congrats on a great hunt

The machine gun pits are really paying off fer 'ya Sube - nice job!

Sube, had you hunted there before? And if so with what detector. And yes you killed em'. And I've been commenting on how quite a few of my pinpoints have been off. Some seem to think it was my user error. It seems not based on your coin the side of hole with pinpoint showing the middle. Again great finds. It will be interesting to see just how the smaller 6 incher works out. If it's any better than the "pizza sized coil" in trash and iron, you may need a wheel barrel to cart your finds back home. lol

Yes I hunted it with a whites 5000db i think that's the # it had auto disc, 6000 series 3, mxt and last with a exp 2 big and small coils. pulled 20 silvers with the exp 2 10 Indians and several rings. This place has been whip to death by everybody and his brother. But if you go here and whip like normal people you might get one or two coins a day and give up.Nobody Hunt's here anymore fine with me if I ever get the 6 inch coil I think I will kill this place. The nice part about this place is its 40 acres with probably 15 acres of prime area which should take me several years to hunt with the 6 inch coil I don't even have to look for another spot this place is loaded with coins but there in junk .The most important thing I have found out in the last couple years is you have to go sloooooow and examine all signals. There are so many signals here it would take a lifetime to cover people have to slooooow down people pass on the low 30s vdi this to me is coin with a pull tab I dig all 30s sometimes I get junk sometimes I get silver you would never believe how many coins are in a area that's been USED FOR A 150 YEARS 30 years ago I meet some guy's working a big church with a large pick-nick grove these two guys pulled out two pint jars of mercs and roosy's out of there and countless wheaties that's 1000s of silver coins I have been there with exp 2 and found 15 silver dimes wish I had time to hit it with the ctx but I got the fairgrounds to sterilize first. No matter how well I hunt it I well be leaving 100s of silver coins behind till they make a detector that will see a coin on a car hood.If you started detecting over 40 years ago you would know how many coins are real lost.Take a small county lake park been there since 1900 I used a 19.95 relco bfo dig it all lots of bottle caps hardly any tabs at all, but you found a wheat penny every foot you moved and I don't classifie this place as heavily used. Those coin's are there just take your time I'm in the mid-west somewhere. I only find a keeper coin once a hour about and dig a lot of junk anything in the 30s vdi and up and my nickel range. Most people well read this get hyped and go to a fairground and fail they well start out sloooow and revert back to whipping thinking they well find more covering more area I well tell you the easy coin are almost all gone you have to slooooow down and take your time or you well be leaving it for me.As far as whipping that's great exercise I'm out enjoying myself slooooow like a turtle get's the silver. The only place I whip is a new place just to get a feeling of whats going on then turtle away.I wish I grew up in a older area one with giant old parks but I'm here, just remember when you hit the trash pile that's where it's at got to tell yourself there laying right in front of you.I also run open screen very little disc I GET WAY MORE IMFORMATION OF WHATS GOING ON UNDER MY COIL. It will be very interesting to see just how many more coins/ jewelry come out of your spot. Your finds with he CTX in conjunction with your stories of previosu hunts in this area speaks volumnes for the CTX's capabilities. You know I saw a utube last week. This gent threw a nail and dime in the ground together at 5 inches and covered it up. He jumps up and compares the etrac with the CTX on this one target/iron setting and commented "see the CTX and etrac are the same". It seems your finds at this particular place are shedding more and more light on the fact the CTX aint no explorer or etrac. Again more time will tell. And if there's many more detectorists using CTXS that are slaying coins in hard hunted places such as yours the verdict will be returned in short order. And just think the CTX is only I believe 8 weeks old.

Yea I have found 3 Indians that were 3 to 4 inches deep with NOTHING by them at all that the exp 2 should of nailed I worked that small area several time big and little coils yet didn't find them the ctx has to be seeing the ground different than the exp 2.

What an inspirational post. Thanks for sharing your hunt. Was a really fun read!

CTX is killer over the Etrac. Very good post and finds Sube!

Thanks for explanation Sube!!

I would love to see a video of what this slow hunt and evaluation of targets looks like! You state you dig all VDIs in the 30s and up + nickle range. What do you use as nickle range 10-16? How clean do the signals have to be for you to dig? Will you dig at any depth? Do you switch between any other modes? Is there any other criteria you employ to decide whether or not to dig? I have my own machine gun pit that I would like to crack!!

Thanks!
Mike

Porschephile my nickel range is set at 11 to 15 the reason why I use 11 is a nickel laying on a angle and not flat v nickles that are 5 to 6 inches will come in at 11 to 13 nickels where I hunt are 4 to 6 inches deep they almost aways are shallower than dimes and Penny's bigger coin makes them stop sinking quicker.15 is my stop point because war nickels hit here most of the time. You well dig beaver tails thank God there's a lot less of them than pull tab's what your looking for on the best hit is 12.13 but if you hit a 12.11 12.14 12.15 circle the target and see if you can get a 12.12 or 12.13 even if you get a 12.15 to 12.23 it's probably got a tab close to it or touching it just make sure one way it hit's on 12.12 or 12.13 the 12.13 is always a dig for me but a 12.13 an lower say a 12.09 12.10 is almost aways a beaver tail. If a tab is directly on top of the nickel it well read tab no way around it but touching or a close tab, if you circle you well get a 12.12 or 12.13 but again there are a million other thing's in the ground that can change these reading's.As far as dimes and Penny's with tab's piece of cake tab's directly over a penny or dime well read 12.34 to 12.37 a automatic dig in my book just get yourself a bunch of different tab's where you hunt place them on top of dimes and penny's you well get your dig # you well find them in the mid thirty's that's why I dig them. If you circle a dime or penny you well get your 12.43 one way if the tab is touching or close to it same with penny #s might be 12.39 to 12.44 again this is for tab's which is my main trash. As far as other modes I'm still learning this one and I like it.
