fairground hunt

Put in 4 hours At the fairgrounds this weekend , hunted a spot I had hit with both coils 6 and stock coil .

So I tried the silver and relic pattern and separation mode high trash and ferrous coin combine . All these coins I had missed was using the 6 inch coil in a area about 30 by 30 the reason I had missed them is because of the sound they all sounded like falses but they were repeating signals MOST of the time there was so much iron nothing would lock on .

I had to physically stop the coil in mid wiggle to get a id but if the coil moved that little bit it would not give me a id . If I over shot the target it would always be iron basically you had to hunt by sound id was to hard to get .

So I would get that high tone mixed with iron both ways but you could hear the high tone sometimes all the time and sometimes it would come and go when I turned 90 degrees it would still be there or just gone . When I mean it was still there it was iron and a high tone sometimes .

All the coins were at 4 inches deep I would check out all falses some never repeated or were extremely hard to get to high tone again a real false those I would ignore the ones that were interesting were the ones that would repeat not all the time kind of like a false but it would high tone every pass or every other pass but stayed in the same place on the ground .

Now here' a little tip I found out about pinpointing in a pile of iron I always run pinpoint sizing when you get that spot where the high tone is coming from you can't pinpoint it because of all the adjacent nails so I would go to pinpoint sizing find my spot hold the coil right over that spot 2 inches off the ground this well detune pinpoint sizing then I
would I lower my coil to a inch and the targets would sound off again but not as loud some of the pinpoints I did have up to 4 different targets under the 6 inch coil at one time .

I don't no why I had missed these target's but it might have to do with conditions it is BONE DRY out there and maybe the iron is not as lively as when the ground is moist.

From now on every false well get 2 or 3 sweeps to make sure it is a false and not a coin with iron , I only dug 6 nails these were probably falses from 2 different iron objects at the same time making a 90 degree turn and had it false the other way . But if you get a iron coin mixed audio several times out of 6 passes check it out because when it's in iron sometimes it won't repeat on every swing . sube

Sure, I too enjoy reading your posts. First of all congratulations on a good hunt. So you missed these before using target trace?

I try to do the same thing but I am using EXP II with small coil (sometimes I use a larger coil it depends). I listen for the good tone mixed in with the iron sounds.

I also feel that the machine wants to give digital good numbers for a coin (in these situations) but is forced into a digital iron number - on mine it is 00 31.
Too bad they didn't use decimals like 00 30.5 - so lower I would dig and 00 30.6 or higher I wouldn't - buy hey I am not an Engineer - just a guy digging in a park

Big Tony said Sure, I too enjoy reading your posts. First of all congratulations on a good hunt. So you missed these before using target trace?

These coins were covered in iron 2 to 4 nails on either side or below just know what I'm listening for now .It was a section I had hunted earlier I know more now than before:) .

Here's one that I found a merc dime high tone with grunt one way 90 degrees grunt using pinpoint sizing I was able to isolate the two targets that were almost touching .There was a nail with a dime on the tip of it also some adjacent nails which did not help . The dime was off the tip of the nail when I got the 2 targets separated and new where the high tone was coming from I could get the target trace to read 12.43 which dimes come in for me.

The thing is this target was like a nail you get your false or real hit go to pinpoint and get draw en with the length of the nail away from the high tone you had marked on the ground and think it was a nail false .But when turned 90 degrees to the target could get a 12.43 with iron grunts from near by iron . It was easy after I could isolate the 2 targets because I new where they were .

As I said before these targets were only 4 inches deep some had up to 4 nails directly below the coins which really messed with the id but that high tone was there and Lot's of iron noise to go with it .

There's Lot's of falsing going on here so it payed to check them out the machine is amazing at what it can sort out you just have to know what to listen for . I also check these targets with nails disc out some signals were a lot better with open screen the signals were more separate from each other compared to using some disc . With that little bit of disc some high tones got clipped and were harder to tell from a false but they were still there but clipped ..

All I can say is I love pulling coins from iron will you work out a spot NEVER unless you dig it all . Things also change in the ground from frost to thawed out every year which well show different coins from year to year .

Keep a eye on those falses and check them out there not always iron you have the machine to tell you what you want to know just got to listen to what it's telling you . sube

Sube, I have to say again - that is impressive to find coins near or with that many nails. Your doing great!

I do accept nails and am considering to accept more trash and see what happens - it might help improve things for me.

Same here...in fact, I can still get fooled by iron shaped like an 'L' , a 'J', or a nail straight up and down in the ground. :(

But I think that's just the bane of all metal detectorists...sometimes we've just got to dig it out.

Besides, I tell myself every rusty bit of iron I dig might be masking something below it...
It makes it all the more important to double check the hole after pulling iron out.

Well done, as always.
