faint tones?

I've been getting some faint signals that read good the first couple of swings and then disappear.I'm running a cz-5 with discrim at 4 and sensitivity at 3.Has anyone experienced this?I tried turning up the sens to 4 and the first time I found an older wheat, but i've tried several times since then with no luck.

One wonders what your volume is at...Don't know about you but frequently run my sens 4-thru-8...Might try this as perhaps you are missing the deepies...Of course your ground has a lot to do with it and also your hearing abilities...8 is about tops in our ground and don't believe you shouldn't set sens. over 4...

I've hunted with the CZ-70 for hundreds of hours(just ask my wife-HA!) and found that I can hunt comfortably with a sensitivity of 6 using the stock 8 inch coil with nothing notched out(at most old sites) and volume set at 10; of course adjusted down with the individual headphones volume knobs. I've tested sites where I've hunted at 4 and then 6 sensitivity settings over the same ground. By in large, I did hear the deeper good targets much better at 6 although with a little more iron falsing of course which was very tolerable. In fact I usually hunt at 6 unless the ground is really bad...just my observations and preferences...HH

Personally unless I am getting some audio falses I feel my unit is set up too low..Not talking about an unstable unit just one that catches a deep iron signal now and then..Quiet as a mouse I feel its not getting the depth its capable of.. Of course everyone has their preferences and may indeed be missing an extremely deep target..

I also can use my cz70 at 6 most of the time but I will bump it up or down according to conditions.
I have used it at 8 in quite a few places and also have bumped it up to 10 occasionally but usually only for very short periods.
I do like the 5 inch coil and it will go deep and I can use the detector at the higher sensitivity settings. 8 and 10. But sometimes the ground is pretty bad and even with the small coil the sensitivity has to come down.
I like to not use audio boost. I like to hear those quieter sounds for the deep targets. My earphones turned way up allow me to hear those quieter sounds as they come without boost. A different sound then boost sound. I can still hear the deep targets.

Fisher gives us modulated audio and if we wish an audio boost..Believe it or not even at 10 volume deep targets are loud but just sound different than shallow ones..We all have preferences and for that matter different quality of hearing so its the users choice. Certainly glad you are not going with the theory of not running sensitivty no more than four as deeper coins are retrieved going to 6 or 8, but like you never found many areas that would support a 10....

Hi Dan
Seems like we are both in agreement on those sensitivity settings.
But I do believe we have different hearing traits.
I still have a long way to go to match your cz experience but not doing to bad so far. My cz70Pro is one I love and glad I got it. Its the best Fisher I have ever used, and have had some going back to before transistor Fishers.

I run my volume at 4.5 because theres so much trash in this park that a boosted sign would crack my eardrums.I don't have volume control on my headphones.

Dan i am using CZ3D can't go over 4 for sen. without falsing. Sounds like it is better to go to higher sen. for depth and live falsing.
