Factory Reset???

unearth

Member
Is there any reason to do a factory reset on the CTX as a maintenance rule? To keep it running smoothly? To keep "bugs", if any, out?

Not that I recall. Every once in awhile I do it to mine just start fresh but only because I don't remember what I might have changed.

Oh, I just remembered one guy that said his was not getting an audible tone for quarters, and halves after trying to make a custom discrimination pattern, he said a reset fixed it.

Do you think it would help to get better depth? I'm running in Auto +3 with the sensitivity at about 20-24, but the ctx sensitivity, green numbers, rarely get above 14.

Hm, Bad ground in that area? I don't think a factory reset will help in this situation. But, if you are all backed up onto your PC, it only takes a couple minutes to do it and be sure.

I read a previous post where a Minelab engineer suggested a factory reset which fixed an issue another member was having. I've only had my CTX for about 7 months and I didn't think I was having any issues myself but I thought it wouldn't hurt to a give it a try and also I was bored at the time. Now this may be my imagination, but after the reset, it seems to be more sensitive in Auto.
One thing I can say for sure is that now it really goes crazy when you turn it on indoors. My Quattro would do the same thing and I would never turn it on indoors because of that. The CTX however was very quiet when I would turn it on indoors. I thought that was strange but I assumed the sophisticated electronics of the CTX was automatically lowering the sensitivity because it was getting so much EMI in my house. After the reset, it now goes crazy inside like my Quattro did
Believe me, I

I'm having the same problems, not enough depth.Auto +3 runs 18-21 green about 14.Anything 6" is iffy and I never can here anything at 7" or above.I'm sure I have bad soil the question is can bad soil limit the CTX this much?Any help please.

I honestly do not believe a factory reset is going to change things for the better with regards to sensitivity. Any one of us can make changes and forget about it and they may make the machine act differently than we anticipated, go ahead and try it see what happens. Like someone else mentioned it really doesn't take that long to do, and if it does fix it, great we all learned something. Personally, I believe the first guy to have the problem with not being able to hear silver quarters and halves probably had something else going on in the settings. But I am not a programmer for the CTX firmware so who knows. The only thing that I ask is that if you do perform a reset and it changes things for the better, or worse or not at all, let us a know. Spreading of information like this is what makes this forum great.

Did a factory reset yesterday after calling minelab.Got permission to check out an old house today.First time to detect at this location and I did better than I've been doing. It may not be the factory reset that made the difference as it caused me to change some settings that may have worked better.I got 2 rosies and a washington qtr and several wheaties and clad. The good thing was that I was getting pennies and dimes at 7 and 8 inches.Better than before the reset.(1) adjusted the threshold pitch to 15 from 1.This caused the audio to standout better.(2)adjusted threshold level to just audible.I think this is very important and it is important to listen to the threshold very closely. This was the only things I did differently other than the reset.I always do noise cancel and ground balance and run a little hot, today was on manual at 27.Anyway for some reason I did much better today as I was getting a little discouraged before.Hopefully this will help someone.

I read this and thought I would get around to doing a factory reset. I just felt the 3030 was loosing some punch? I don't know just a feeling. I just today got around to doing it. I haven't hunted with the reset but just now reloaded all my custom programs. On the reboot from ejecting from computer I did notice a remarkable difference in volume from before the reset? That was just with the external speaker in the house. I will give it a whirl today or tomorrow low tide and report back.

I read in a couple of other threads not to do a ground balance as that will cause you to lose depth. I never ground balance mine and I get good depth.
