Factory NiMH Rechargeable Battery Pack

Cal_Cobra

Active member
New Sovereign user here, and just had a quickie on the NiMH rechargeable battery.

There's no LED on the battery or charger to let you know if it's going or finished. Does the factory wall charger switch off when the battery pack is recharged ?

Thanks,
Brian

Factory pack is a ni-cd. Recharge 12-14 hrs when the detector quits working.
I use a timer on mine.

The elite and gt have the ni-mh packs .

Thanks Art, was curious if it had a cutoff/overcharge circuit, as I left it on the charger all weekend. I'll look into a timer.

There is no cutoff or overcharge protect.
One redeeming fact is that the charger is pretty much a trickle charger and will not immediately cook the batteries if you let it run a bit long. Pack should only get slightly warm. If it starts getting hot, then there is a problem. This would happen sometime near the end of the charge cycle if the pack did not need a full recharge or if it has a bad cell. Shorten the charge time if this happens.

Follow good ni-cd procedures and you will do OK.

Thanks Art. The battery pack wasn't even warm when I removed it from the charger, so that's a good indication.

I'll give it a field test, and I have an alkaline battery pack for backup when the Nicads run out of juice (I'll probably run out of juice before they do).
