FACTORS TO CONSIDER ON THE BUYING AND USE OF A METAL DETECTOR

The art of treasure hunting and the use of a metal detector can be a rough game,as treasure hunters you must keep in mind how is the detector made, were are you going to take it.Real treasure hunting can put you in some harsh and nasty environments.Do you really want a detector that is built like the latest dvd player or do you want a detector that is built to take the abuse of real treasure hunting?.Why do you think the Sovereign is so popular and the musketeer cost so much? The amount of electronics inside the detector plays a part in how long the detector will last, the least parts that will get the job done right is going to be the best detector without breaking, and how the parts are made and used in the design of the detector.Does the detector have a screen to break, heavy duty knobs and metal toggle switches or the new easy to break digital design with easy to break touch buttons.Tesoro offers a lifetime warranty right,so you have to think about how the detector is made and will it last. Why do you think they built a great detector with just what is needed to find treasure, they do not emphasize on screen id units, new type digital design touch button's and the latest electronic bells and whistles because the detector would break every day!.When we buy a metal detector, think about how and were it will be used. This is in my view why i think that the Minelab Sovereign,Excalibur,Musketeer,Eureka Gold are the best detectors from minelab because of how they are built, the rest to me are junk, and a experiment gone bad.

Id have to agree with that,I just sold my Bells and whistles machines and purchased the sovereign GT today.....I only wish I would have figured this out years ago, but better late than never they say

I use to be narrow minded like maria8forever untill I got my first Explorer and now the E-Trac .My idea of the best machine is one that I can go to heavily hunted old public parks, fairground and schools and find lots of barbers,Indians and many other old coins.I have found several hundred pre 1920 coins in the last few months with the E-Trac alone.I think I will keep using my so called junk machine.I have several hundred hours on the Explorers and now the E-Trac without even a hint of a problem with the machines quality.
I started detecting back in the early 70s and I will take the "experiment gone bad" machines any day of the week.Of course you have to be intelligent enough with a healthy dose of patience to learn to operate them properly or they might just seem like junk to the unschooled users.
Just my view based on my finds and experiences in the field, Ray.
PS. I think the Minelab Sovereign,Excalibur,Musketeer,Eureka Gold are fine machines as well and am in the process of learning the Sovereign and Excalibur.

I like the knobs better as well I feel more secure in them , but the T2 and F 75 kida have a good deal going i like the dial and the one button but its still got a lot of bells and wistles but i do wonder how the touch pads will hold up and how easy they are to repair

The Etrac is a heck of a detector, thats a fact, no matter who says its not:cheers:

I am not knocking any detector, just want opinions on what detectorist with years of experience felt about all digital detectors, like if minelab gets rid of the detector design such as the sovereign with knobs and toggle switches and it is replaced with a design such as that of the X-terra with more digital design and touch pad buttons.I do have a strong belief that the design of the detector has a great deal in how it will last, such as if the company keeps knobs and metal toggles or goes to a all digital format.Being a electrical and electronic repair technician has me concerned that company's think we want these more delicately built detectors that if you take your $1500.00 dollar exporer exploring off of the beaten path and a branch goes through the front windshield or these touch pad buttons do not hold up like a conventional style switch or knob that we are not going to be upset with the decision that the company made was a bad one.You do have to realize the design of the only detector company in the world that offers a lifetime warranty, how the detector is built to offer a warranty such as this on a hard working electronic outdoor machine? No hard feelings please, what are your opinions of this matter,it is important to all that invest in metal detectors.Thank you.

I am having bad experiences with the Excalibur. Sent back the second time within a year. I want that, because of the BBS to be my primary #1 detector, but painful experiences tend to cause one to re-evlauate the decision to buy. The construction sans digital screen, etc,, is only one factor. Have two other machines made by other manufacturers that have been working for years. Sold one that I got in the late 70s to a member here and it's working fine for him...still. When they start production again, I am going to get one of the underwater detector made by the company with the lifetime guarantee. Jim

I would love to have one of those if i could get the money up! i know it would be a great detector sea, land, and even prospecting!.I called the company about it,it is coming along good but a little slow, you know how it is,or has to be,it has to be right if there is a lifetime warranty involved, special attention to all details is a must! The company said like Sept,Oct.Thanks for the input! I am a minelab & Tesoro fan i hope forever!.

:thumbup:Wow i1jab that is a beautiful coin,i don't think it can get much better than that!!! nice find, you did good!.I have checked out the xp's on www.regton.com and i thought they looked nice and very well built, nice and light, cordless headphones and all, hipp mount.I was wondering is there a model that has regular discrimination like the models we are used to,some seem to have tone discrimination and had me a little confused.I will go look at them again,i might try to order me one,i know they are popular in your country.I also like the sovereign too.Thank you for showing that beautiful coin with us,hope you talk back to us soon.Charles,Charleston,S.C.USA.
