I been swinging a detector since I bought a Jetco BFO detector back in 1974. Over the years, I, like so many others, have been searching for the "perfect" machine. I've owned Garretts, Whites, Fisher, and Tesoro, as the technology improved and the new features came out.
I live in the Las Vegas area; the "dirt" (can't call it soil) is really on the highly-mineralized side. With some detectors, I literally could not detect a penny lying on top of the ground, so I've been seeking one that would get some kind of depth in this lousy ground. The part of town I live in is undergoing urban renewal; the older houses, build in the 40's and 50's are being torn down to make way for newer buildings. The perfect place to go "beeping," except for all the junk associated with demo'ing a building. (Anyone who's ever detected a ghost town knows what I mean.) Anyway, I've hit this one yard at least ten times---with a Tejon, Cortes, and most recently, an X-terra 70. I found a few wheat backs, lots of zincs, and one silver dime. Of course, over time, the finds have gotten fewer...
I thought I'd take the plunge and try the X75, which came last Thursday. My first impressions were favorable, but I really was asking myself if it were that much better than the X70. Earlier this week, I hit the yard with the X70, found a few zinc cents, at the 1" -2" range. Not bad, considering the times I'd hit the place.
Tonight, I decided to go over the same ground with the F75. I was blown away. The disc was outstanding; I dug no zincs. I did find 6 pre-82 copper cents, a Chinese coin, a wazzit, five wheat backs and a 1957 Roosevelt dime. Depths were up to 6", which is amazing, considering the mineralization and dryness of the earth. This is some coin shooter!
