F75 vs ?

OK all of you out there in TH land, I have been hunting since 1981 and have used some good units such as Garrett, Whites, Tesoro and Minelab. The Garretts were killer on discrimination but marginal on depth. The Explorer was pretty good on depth but you moved at a snails pace. The White's were cool to look at but I felt like my son would like it better because it was like a video game, once again, marginal on depth (have not used the V3). I have not seen anything out there to date that will beat the F75 on quickness or depth. The only thing is bottle caps but we all have a way around that. I had the T2 and switched to the F75 simply because of the back light (very cool).

The $64,000 question is "am I in a dream world or is there anything close to the F75?... (not counting the T2)

Thanks,

Rob in Tennessee

Depends on the application, soil type, what you prefer to hunt, etc. But for normal coin and jewelry hunting, I understand a Minelab Etrac to be the best on deep silver. Beyond that, a Gold Bug Pro/Teknetics G2 is supposed to be awesome (the best?) in lots of iron trash -- and very simple to use. Otherwise, an F75/T2 is, as I understand, about as good as any -- a very sensitive, high-end unit. I don't want to sell the F70 short either; it's what I have, similar in performance to the F75 (but no boost process for a bit of extra depth, which is available on the F75/T2 LTD and SE models -- but not the base F75 or T2). Some folks have even come close to matching the performance of an F70/F75/T2 using a Teknetics Omega 8000 or a Fisher F5, and in some applications perhaps matching or exceeding, but most agree they are not quite as deep as the F70/F75/T2.

Hope this helps.

As has already been mentioned, it does somewhat depend on soil conditions and type of hunting being done, but for depth in my ground my F 75 LTD will hang with the best and just could be the deepest of the detectors mentioned. I state this as side by sides have been done on more then one occasion. Having said this, though, I think to much emphasis is put on depth. Granted, there are some locals and spots where having a detector that will hit a 10" coin will put a few additional coins in the pouch, but for every one of these deep coins dug, many more are passed over do to masking...and this is truly where the F 75/F75 LTD stand out over many other detectors. F T might now have a couple of other models that are even better at unmasking, but with the F 75/LTD one has almost the best of both worlds.....good unmasking and great depth. But, no one detector can do it all perfectly, as we all know. HH jim tn

The F75 and the T2 are fine detectors. Are they perfect.. No Sir. A lot depends on where you hunt, what you hunt, and your hunting style. For fast on the go detecting with depths that are very respectable the F75 is the detector you need to be swinging. You can and will hit targets at 8 to 12 Inches deep.
You will also miss some targets that are just too surrounded by junk, or covered with junk to find them. fast..yes the recovery is very fast on F75 machines.. infallible..No Sir they are not. But their good, very good, at hitting targets close to junk. The Minelabs are good at hitting targets that have junk on the top and sometimes within the same hole diameter. You have to go real slow for that though, and that isn't my style of hunting. The Multi frequency sometimes is the answer to more finds..Sometimes it isn't, If you use the machine wrong."Swing the Minelab fast"..You may as well have a radio shack detector. Just like the F75..you go to slow with it, you loose targets. So your abilities and your style will play a factor in your success. My favorite is the T2..I have both F75 and T2..with coils that work where I need them too. If you want very good results, lots of fairly deep targets, and light weight comfortable detecting.. Go the F75..if you want a little edge in the trash, and don't mind a heavy slow swinging detector..then go Minelab.... Different strokes for different folks. Myself..I am sticking with the T2, and F75 units for overall comfort, and exceptional finds,if their there that day for me to find them. I tried an Etrac..it worked well, but not as well as I expected. Many get great results with it, Many do not.. Same with the F75..some don't do well, others do.... Only you can really decide what is best for you. I don't mean that as a smart alec answer..It really does apply to each of us..If you like what you use..you will be happy with what it finds.. If you do not like what your swinging you will never do well with it.

Very good info. I am looking at the LTD as my main relic machine. Most important thing in machines is learning what it is telling you.

All of you are right. The F75 fits me better than all of the other units on the market today. It is very light, lightning response, huge amount of information with a large display (illuminated), long battery life, phenomenal depth, programs as easy as a 5 function calculator... There may be a feature out there on another machine that would be pretty cool like imaging from Garrett but I still will be amazed if they can top this machine. Bravo to the First Texas/Fisher R&D department for delivering the F75.

Thanks again for your responses,

rob!..f-75's the cat's as*!..literally!..you pretty much covered it all!
i will say get the 5" dd coil!."outrageous" depth for a small coil, and "sees" even better
when ya "hunt in the junk"!....just sayin!
