f75 target depth

New member
Since this is my first ID machine i have a couple questions.
TARGET DEPTH = Target depth will not lock on unless coil is
held still over top of target,is this normal. Also shallow
targets always read deep.

TARGET ID = ON good targets, it is such a variation , such
as swing coil one way, target ID # 65 swing coil back, target
ID #42 this is just one sample the numbers vary.Is this normal.

MACHINE SETUP = DE MODE 60-75 SENS. DISC. 10 FASTGRAB AT 65.
Have also tried other modes, with same results

GOOD TARGETS = CIVIL WAR BULLETS, BUTTONS AND OTHER ARTIFACTS

Well, first off, it sounds like you need to get accustomed to the VCO pinpointing. I love the VCO, as you'll motice when pulling the trigger to pinpoint you not only see the inches numbers, but also hear the pitch go higher too. When the pitch sounds as it's peak, PLUS the inches numbers are at it's lowest...then your dead on. What I mean by inches # at it's lowest, is that as you close in on the target center you may see the inches say 6"....then drop to 5, then say if you X over the spot you may see a 4". If you can get no lower in number, where you see the 4 is where to dig. This takes some practice...but once you get it all you'll love it.
yes, your correct about the target ID. Your describing a "jumpy" or "iffy" signal. It could be a target on edge or a deep target that the detector can't get a perfect read on. As you sweep from one direction you may sweep across it for a better ID. From the opposite direction it may drop the number some. It can also "up average" a little. It sounds to be like your describing a deep bullet, A three ringer is usually in the 50's I think. So, seeing a 42 & a 65 means it's in bewteen a bullet. Or, to simplify hwat I'm saying.....BOTH those numbers are above iron & GOOD readings. I would dig anything over 15 when relic hunting like you describe....
Finally, your settings look fine. Especially until you get more comfortable with the unit. No need to run sensitivity up yet or try the hotter jewelery mode. But that should be great on buttons. If your strickly after relics, you may want to give the all metal mode a try. You will hear everything, but you can just dig if the object is over 15....this is how I hunt Revolutionary relics...

Thanks,Bill
I've got a lot to learn with this type of machine.I've always
used FISHERS,1265,1266,1270, anyway just wanted to make sure
it was me and not the machine.I'm sure to ask more questions
in the future.

Thanks,
Relic Dog

Relic Dog, I think what you are experiencing right out of the box is pretty typical. At least what you are describing was my experience, too, my first several outings with the machine. Once I mastered pinpointing (I had never used that type of coil before) everything seemed to fall into place. I have only had mine a little over a week, but it is truly one amazing detector.
