F75/T2 setup question

MIG73

New member
I had a chance to try out an F75 yesterday, and I have a question. Can anybody tell me how to set up the F75 to sounds like the T2? all of the wonk wonk wonk you hear is enough to drive you crazy, and maked it hard to hear the high tones. My T2 is a LOT quieter, while it still seems to find the goodies. I'd like to see if theres a way to quiet it down a good bit without losing depth. Here are the settings I was using:
Sense 60-70
Disc 20
Tones 2+
Mode: De
More or less like I would have set up my T2, except I usually run the T2 at sense 80 or so...Is there anything I can do to quiet the Fisher down, or is that just the nature of the beast?

Well, I'm sure you ground balanced but I have to ask if you switched to the all metal mode and checked it. Also, make sure you didn't GB over a target. Everything else appears to be in order.

Michael, AM is on the right side of the screen. Just turn the settings knob to the right. As far as the chatter, the F75 is very sensitive and your are hearing everything in the ground. It does take a little getting used to, but it is a goodies finding machine. HH jim tn

In order to make the F75 like 2" deeper than the T2 they had to make it more sensitive. To some, this may seem chattery. You didn't list your FeO ground balance readings, & it sounds like you were in a very mineralized area maybe. Your next site may be quieter on those same settings. Also, as Mr. Bill keeps reminding us, learn how to do frequncy shifting on chattery sites. Maybe also try the BC mode too....
IF your a relic hunter, you may actually like all metal mode. That's what I often use. You'll hear iron too, but just dig numbers over 15. In all metal, you can quiet it down greatly by turning the "threshold" down into negative numbers too....
HH,
Bill

How:

Switch over to the all metal mode and go to manual ground balance. Follow the instructions as listed in the manual on page 10.

Why:

Incorrect ground balancing will give either a positive or negative response to the minerals in the ground. See page 12. I prefer to go to all metal and set my GB slightly positive of neutral. It seems to make the machine a little hotter on brass. This setting will carry over into the Disc. mode. It has been my experience that the auto GB will usually be either right at neutral or slightly negative. Hope this helps.

How do you GB at a site so prolific with trash that its vertually impossible to find a clean patch of ground? I was getting 5 or 6 beeps (or more) PER SWING, which would say to me that the ground where I was was FULL of trash/iron.

As a new user, I wouldn't take the Mega-hot F75 into a really trashy site the first day.....That's a very challenging site, and probably worth another look when you are far more comfortable with the F75's sights & sounds. I know it's billed as a killer in trash (and it is), but it takes a keen trained ear to succeed in iron. You have to learn good audio from bad. So, maybe choose a less trashed site until you know it's sounds better.....
Good luck,
Bill

Trouble is, those are the places I need the F75 for...guess I'll have to ease my way into them. In the mean time, I have the T2 which I am TOTALLY pleased with that I can use. Thanks Bill!
Michael

...if you can't properly ground balance due to trash then you must find a clean piece of ground nearby to set your ground balance. I would recommend that if the ground in your area is pretty consistant that you note the ground phase number for future reference (the number displayed after a sucessful GB) and manually dial that number in (via manual ground balance) when you can't get a good "fastgrab". My setting is usually around 65. I don't recommend this in place of ground balancing but it should get you close when you can't properly GB the machine. I'm not sure how the memory works on the F75 but if it retains your last settings then that number should be in there already. In other words, when you turn the machine on, you should be able to hunt in whatever the previous GB setting is. Check that and let me know if I'm correct.

on the T2 at least, can be rough at times in trashy areas. Unless you crank up the threshold to higher than normal hunting levels the hum does not always return between iron hits which can be frustrating when you are looking for a stable threshold to indicate clean ground. In any of the disc modes turning the discrimination to 0 works well to find a clean spot and may be easier for you if that is not what you are doing now. The GB you get may not be spot on but, even a very small area between targets will get you close. If you don't see the "can't GB" you are good. Also, if you have to lower the sensitivity to GB due to all the signals it may be wise to manually increase the GB by a couple numbers before you raise the sensitivity.
