F75 Running Teknetics Greek Coils? You Bet!

I mentioned this a while back but thought I would bring it up again and inform all of you Fisher "F" series guys of a neat thing I tried. There are bottle cap problems associated with the DD coils so I tried the 8" Tek coil on my F75 and it works like a charm, even in bottle cap and iron infested areas. The ID is right on (maybe 1 digit off depending on the target). The depth ID on the other hand is a bit off. What ever the ID reads for depth, double it. Other than that, the 8" round Tek coil on the F75 is really a neat way to run. I also noticed that there is less chance for EMI. This F75 - Tek 8" coil set up still hits my 8" dime in the garden "with out" the boost mode. Turn on the boost mode and lift the coil another inch off the ground and still hits it.

I have not tested it but I do believe the F5 is basically the same frequency as the Tek Greek units so again, everything will interchange as long as it is a screw in type connector.

if depth off, readings off etc......something doesn't sound correct.. What is the real advantage of using an improper coil ???

DaveJ.Can we get your input on this ??.

The "Greek" coil series is an electrical mismatch to the F75 coil series. They may "seem" to work (i.e., you'll probably get beeps) and won't cause any harm, but transmit power is reduced, transmit stability is reduced, and ground phase response is thrown off and it may not ground balance.

In other words, if you try it and like it, that's fine. However performance is degraded in ways that may not be obvious, and the factory doesn't recommend it.

Dave, can you expand a bit

My thinking which might be wrong

If the impendance (ohm readings) of both coils seem to be the same or close then, other factors will need to be considered correct?

Example: inductance and capacitance which will define the reactance of the coil circuit, correct?

Thanks in advance
