F75 Questions

DetectThis

New member
Hello Findmall!

I just resently received my Fisher F75, and I have a few questions. I read a bunch of posts, watched movies and played with the detector and I still really do not udnerstand how the notch option works. so lets say I set my Disc. to 15 (which I usually do), and I keep my notch at 1, what happens when I turn it up? everything below it stays and everything above is notched? so if I Disc. 15 and Notch 65, then I will be detecting in 16 to 64? orrrrr? lol, dunno why its confnusing me so badly. Also, I seen a couple movies where people had been getting MUCH greater depth with their F75 in all metal mode.....why is that? I am not the greatest with the different sound tones so I usually try to stay away from All Metal as of right now until I get more use to the machine, but I do not wanna miss deep targets. Also I am in a pretty mineralized area of Michigan and I have been usually hunting with my sensitivity at like 75 to 82 tops, or it gets super chatty, should I still just hunt with it at 90ish and deal with the chatter? or keep it stable? my prior knowledge tells me keep it stable, but I have heard the F75 maybe different for some reason? dunno. Anyways, thanks in advance for any help you may throw my way with learning the new awesome machine (which I LOVEEEEE so far, by far one of the best for me)

Personaly when I first got my ltd I ran in factory default and Slowly worked up sense and down with disc. You want the machine to run as quiet as you can till you learn what its telling you.I to am in michigan and ground balance normally low to mid 70's.I dont use notching therefore cant help you with that.Just run it slow and low for now, till u get the hang of it.The F75 is very sensitive so there are places where u may struggle with it.The worst I ever ran into was an old house with a invisible dog fence,I couldnt run at all till I talked the lady into turnig it off!!!.Be patient and you will never look back on another machine......hh rick in mi Oh by the way my settings or normally sens.80 disc.6 notch.0 tones 3h proc.De or Bp hope this helps

First things first, you say you are new to the F75, that been said I would advise not using the notch until you get more familiar with the machine. I would do a factory reset and then start working with the other features and save notching until last.

It would also help us help you if you told us what type of hunting you wand to do.

But for notching, if you have your disc low and set a notch higher than the disc you will be notching out the setting. If you set you disc high and set a notch below the disc you will be notching in that setting.

Notching is a good tool but you really need to try to think of something you want it to do with it. Setting a buch of notches you can get your maching really messed up.

For example:

Some times I run high disc for coin hunting and to get the nickels I will set a low notch to get the nickels to come in.

I don't do this one much but say you are running low disc and you are getting a lot of one kind of pull tap, you can set a high notch and take that tab out.

Hope something said helps,

Ron in WV

The thing that often gets overlooked is that disc and notch are like - signs and multiplying. -x-=+ so when you both notch and disc they cancel out and turn the range back on. This is why people get so tangled up its better to reset and go from a clean setting sometimes.

Whats been said is all good advise and I never use notch myself. if you have been playing with the notch, do a factory reset to get it back to "no notch." The main reason you get better depth in all metal is it is less effected by minerals in the soil then when in disc. I hunt 99 % of the time in disc mode, but use disc of 4 and less. On occasion when emi becomes a problem and a frequency shift doesn't help, I will move disc up to 7-10 and if necessary, lower sen some off my usual 85 setting. With a disc setting of 4 and less and 19 and higher, you will be in the high gain modes. Personally, I like to hear everything under the coil and listen for those high tone tic's among the trash. That's why I use disc of 4 and less. Good luck, you have got yourself a great detector. HH jim tn

How to use Notch on the Fisher F75 and Ltd's

It really is simple..the manual appears to make it difficult..and that's only because they forgot to stress the Fixed set of numbers for notching abilities.

In other words if your detecting in a park.. your using Discrimination at 25. all of a sudden your getting a lot of one type of pull tabs. Say it falls in the
#38 Target ID.. Over and over again..You go to notch..press menu dial to the number 38..and press menu. A dash will darken up above on the left side of the tab name on display. You removed the Number 38...but you also removed 36, 37,39,40,41,42,43,44,45.....Because the notch is set up in a fixed set of numbers on each target category..36 through 45 is the lower half of factory set notch numbers in tabs area... You will always remove all factory set numbers when notching out target numbers that is above your discrimination setting...You will always be putting the numbers in with notch if they are lower than your discrimination setting. You need to know these notch fixed numbers to understand the notch system.

Now if your running Discrimination at 40..then the notch system is designed to do just the opposite of Discrimination..So 36 37 38 39 40 will be notched in..
41 42 43 44 45 will be notched out. Notch always does the opposite of the Discrimination. So if you want all the fixed numbers in tabs on lower half out..Move your discrimination to 36 (Get your discrimination number at the lowest fixed number) in the range you want to remove. Before, you set the notch.. It's your choice..but you have to work the two systems together for full benefits.
