F75 Question??

BEAR

New member
Now this is my question. How come on the F75 on a deep bullet you can only get the signal one way? On the chewed bullet and the Merrill Carbine both were around 7" to 8" deep. The small bullet was about 3" or 4" deep and got good signal both ways. The penny was not deep or the brass cap and both gave good signal both ways. Now the nickel was VERY DEEP 9" or 10" and got good signal both ways. All of these come from the same place too. Machine set in JE mode. Sen at 75. 2 Tones and I just ground balance with the trigger. Is it the Double D Coil or what. Now you cannot say it was because of the way the bullet is laying in the ground. It would not matter how it is laying it should pick it up both ways. Or I would think so

No I rechecked the holes to make sure. I was thinking that too. There was nothing else there or close to them.

I'd guess that bullet was reading below your disc setting on the direction that you weren't hearing it. I seldom use a disc setting as high as the 15 you were using for this very reason. I suspect that if you'd have reduced your disc setting to nothing or even went to default and dialed in a 6 disc, you'd have heard it. Something was different about the ground right there to make that happen as you experienced assuming you didn't miss a masking object. I'd also be curious as to what that target sounded like and possibly ID'd in all metal. When you get a one way target, try one or both of the settings I mentioned and see what you hear. In all metal, a bullet will sound significantly different than a nail or even a piece of nail.

I am wondering about your disc. setting of 15, too, hampering the signal from being two way. I use disc. 6 most of the time myself and on the rare occasion that I have gotten a one way signal and dug it, it truned out to be a deep dime on edge or slightly tilted. Seemingly that shouldn't happen on a bullet of that size, though??? HH jim tn

I have used metal detectors for years, but I am new to the F75. What is the best set up for relic hunting. I had it on 15. Now I don't know why. I just thought that was a good spot to start, but still that is what messed me up was it blasted the nickle and it was deep, but not the bullets and the settings where the same.

6 is better. It could have been a blood spot "iron that has rusted away" in the ground. If i was relic hunting i would be useing all metal motion mode.

Relic hunting I mostly Digg all good 2 way signal targets unless I am suspecting Hi-Iron falseing then the vid can be Bouncy..
use all metal motion/manual GB or for a Big Deep target use all metal Stat
In Discrim F7,DE/JE/PF,sense 60 up,Disc 0 - 10..seems to work great..In reality I am finding it Depends on the ground minerals for Best settings and performance..
The F75 is a awesome machine and has an option for any situation..I agree that Disc 15 coulda been the cause of the 1 way tone, or a Iron Blood stain..

I guess I did have my discrimination too high. I know I cannot hunt this place in All Metal. There is just way too much iron in the ground. I have hunted this same spot for 10 years and the F75 is starting to put out some more finds for me again. The next time I go I will turn it down to 5 and hunt the same spot. I was getting alot of one way signals I did not dig. I will let all of you know how the F75 did and will post some pictures of what I come out with. Thanks everyone for the info. BEAR

Hey Liquid1,
I saved that tip to a file, I just realized the best of F75 is better saved than easily forgotten.
Thanks

Sunny Jim

Well I turned the Disc. down to 6 today and this is what I came up with in about 1 hour. The Button, Scabbard Tip and big Bullet was deep. First button I have found at this spot in 3 years. I thought I had found all of them. Button and Bullet sounded good only one way until I took a big plug out and then it would X out good both ways. The 2 little lead balls was not too deep, but hard to find for a old guy. The piece of iron sound like iron with a high tone one way and hard to pinpoint. So I knew it was iron anyway. This hillside is full of iron and hot rocks, but the ground is not all that bad. The rest of the farm is good ground, but most all the relics are on the hillside. I have used everything on this hill and so far the F75 is doing a real good job and getting the deep signals. The piece of iron was the only piece of trash I dug, but it is Civil War trash. So I guess I am doing OK with the F75. I may have 5 hours total with the machine. Thanks for everyones help. BEAR

Wow!

WTG Bear!

Can you talk more on the iron target and all the reasons you knew it was iron please?

Nice finds and thanks for the report and pics.

I was getting a iron sound 3 ways and low numbers. I would swing one way and the 75 would scream out loud and give a high number and bounce to low number. Would not pinpoint in the same place. Same way with the old Fishers or Tesoro's, but now I like this myself. Because all I do is relic hunt and there is alot of good iron relics I want to dig. I have only dug 1 rusty nail with the 75 and I should have known better, but digging is learning. BEAR
