I have had my F75 for 2 weeks or so and , other than having to run the sensitivity at 30 to cut down interference from my Vibraphone 570 I am very happy about the fact that I found a gold ring the first day out with it and 2 days ago an 18k italian gold medallion and it is red hot on Loonies and Toonies.
One question I have is about discrimination .I set it at 15 to eliminate Iron( with DE and notch 1) ,just like I do on my Minelab SE .However I still hear the iron and see the discrim. values below 15 on the screen .Is this normal ?
Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

ps Without the Vibraprobe I can run it at 80 sensitivity dead silent.

Have you tried the factory reset? Does your F-75 Discrim. factory reset at 10 or 15? Newer units are supposed to reset at 15.

Factory reset and if at 15, leave it there and test it. Any iron sounds?

Factory reset and if at 10, turn it up to 15 and test it. Any iron sounds?

You mentioned having it set at Notch #1. When you factory reset, there is NO Notch active. After factory reset, when you scroll to the Notch menu, the display should show a #1. This is just a number and does not indicate that low iron range 1-7 is Notched OUT (not detected).

If you are setting the Discrim. to 15 and are in fact selecting and activating Notch by using the #1 in the display window, you are Notching low iron range 1-7 back IN (detected).

When you have Discrim. #15 selected, with no Notch activated, there should be a full slash through the word IRON at the top of the display. Discrim. and Notch work sort of the same but opposite of each other.

Immediately after factory reset, turn the Discrim. to #0. there should be no slashes showing on the words at the top of the display, i.e. Iron, Foil, Nickel, Tab or Zinc.

Now turn the Discrim. all the way up to #65. There should be full slashes through all five words mentioned in the preceding sentence, at the top of the display.

As you can see, that if you have the Discrim turned up to some level and select and Notch a number below that level of Discrim., you are Notching that Range back IN (detected).

After the reset everything was fine and the machine reacted just as you said it should .Now I don't have to listen to iron sounds all day long .thanks a lot for your help.It is the older version and the reset discrim.was 10 like you said .

My understanding all the F75 including the new version defaults to 10 ..anyone have a new april 2008 version..to confirm ..I tought the circuits were the same just
the seal battery box and grips..?????

I have a new version that has the updates and has a March mfg date on the serial number. It defaults at 10 like the earlier units. Someone posted in late Feb that the new versions were made to default at 15 so new operators would have an easier time with trash etc. but I believe that was not accurate information. I have not heard of any that default at 15.

click click click turn knob to 15 and bam!

When that happens look at the word IRON at the top of the screen. It should have a line going all the way through it. In your case, you only have a line going through half the word. What happens is that you have accidently notched IN the lower iron range when you ran through the menu. Just scroll down to notch and change the setting to 2 and click the menu button and it will be all right. Or do a factory reset.

No kidding about the vibra probe. I tryed a frieds and it made my 75 chatter to no end. Sunray all the way for me.

How do you turn off the V 570 ? I thought you had to wait for it to turn itself off .I was thinking about putting a switch on it .Anyone got any ideas about that ?

Digger, look around on the modifications part of the forms. Ive seen someone mod theres with a switch. The problem i had with the one i tryed was when running the 75 hot it would turn it back on. A switch would do the trick.
