F75 LTD picks them out of nail field.

Managed to get out to an old home site in a corn field today. Tried running the F75 in BP, sensitivity at 65, discrimination at 12 and single tone. Pulled a nice 1851 early. My very first large cent was found about three years ago and it to was an 1851. The first one had a hole punched right through the middle. I was glad to find such a nice example. I did a fairly careful grid of where thought the house had stood and found one cent. Went back to four tone and 6 discrimination and just wandered around the field. First target was a 1864 Indian. Just before I quit great hit with a solid 59-60 penny reading. I am thinking Indian head. Dug the loose dirt out of the hole, swept it and the signal jumped to 89. I am thinking a half would be nice. Saw a large coin in the loose dirt and pulled my second large cent. I am cleaning and looking for a solid date, but know it is pre-1839. This is now my oldest coin ever.
Hope to verify the date tomorrow after some careful cleaning. So far this year, four large cents, and two, two centers. Pretty happy with my field hunting. Hope to get out a few more times before the snow flies.

WTG Don would love to find a coin that old!! I am also trying to get in as much time as i can before the ground turns to concrete,[already had some snow] Does anybody know if the cold, say freezing or lower, has much effect on these machines?? Dont remember what the manual says on temp spread, but do know lcd displays dont like cold temps. hh rick in mi.

Well, they never photograph as pretty as they look to you when they come out of the ground. I am loving finding these large cents, but still haven't gotten used to it. I found two in one field about two weeks ago. One was actually lying on top of the ground. The other two large cents I found yesterday. One is pre-1839 but I haven't pinned the date down. I almost think it says 1816. Just by being pre-1839 it becomes my oldest coin. I found the two centers over the summer. The pretty one came from an old picnic grove and was fairly deep. The green one was another almost on top of the ground recovery from a bean field. Really enjoying finding these large cents. It took me over 30 years to find my first one and I have found four this year.

Very nice, comet! I'll be happy with something pre-1940's and have spotted some sites that just may make that goal come true. You may have better targets, but, I can hunt mine all year long!!
