F75 Arrived, First Impressions

Received my Christmas gift around 5:00 P.M. from the UPS guy. No marks or rips in the package. Opened the Fisher F75 box to find everything neatly and securely arranged. Proceeded to assemble the F75 with no problems. Took careful note of alignment and made sure everything was straight before I fully tightened the locking nuts. Paid particular attention to the coil connector and it's receptacle on the back of the display. After locating the alignment notch on both parts of the connector, I aligned them and the connector went together smooth as silk. Knurled nut tightened securely and strain relief on the rear of the connector was tight against the coil cable.

Unit is solid and I can find no nicks, blemishes or anything else wrong for that matter. Decided to take it out in the cold for a test run. Used the factory settings and the "Fast Grab" gave me a 74 with the fe3-o4 not showing anything. Unit worked as advertised on coins, even though there appeared to be numerous iron objects in the area. I'm thinking these soil conditions might not be too bad. Can't get over how lite it is. I'm kinda short so I have it adjusted all the way up. Gets comfortable real quick.

I would say that, in my opinion, worrying about build problems and operational problems are non-issues. I remember when I first got on this forum, I said that I felt like this was a wise purchase. I'm feeling mighty good about this.

Hey Ron, wait until you have a chance to spend some time with the F75. You'll love it.

Hi Ron, first impressions are good, but just wait until the goodies start piling up, which they will. I've had my F75 since April and hunt just about daily for 4 or so hours and have never had any kind of a problem or issues with performance or construction. You are gonna love the F75. Good luck and HH, jim tn

Certainly envy you guys who have the will power to leave the F75 under the tree. Hope it's wrapped up because the box it comes in could make you lose control and tear into it. Just under a week, so hang in there.

Spent some time out back in the snow trying to learn more. As best as I can tell everything is working like it's supposed to. Watched the Dankowski video a couple of times already, noting his preference for multiple tones and trying to get the feel for distinguishing good ones from bad ones. Tried all tone settings and 4H is my favorite so far. Maybe it's because Tom used something like that in the video. Noticed that the high nickle tone of 4H reverted to the medium tone on deeper nickles. Guess I should have noticed what the VDI was saying but didn't. Next time.

Tried 1 and 1F but I can't distinguish good targets from bad, as.they all seem to sound the same. Area just out back of the house has more than enough iron targets to make locating good targets a challenge. 2F has possibilities but that will come later. I'm sort of liking Disc. of 0 or 6, DE, sens. 80, 4H so far. It's stable and targets get separated easily. Picked up the small coil also and have plans to use it on some sites where old homes used to stand.

I'm going to have to get used to the rain and dust covers as they will be permanent on the F75. Occasionally, a little glare is reflected off the plastic. It's OK because I find that with this machine I only pay attention to the sound until I hear a good one. Then use the display for verification. Would be interested in other opinions on weaknesses and strengths of the different tones available. Reviewed some of the older posts which were very helpful.

I don't even get to see anything of mine till Christmas. They must be hidden at a friends house - haven't figured how she does it after all these years and she knows I'm not staying up all night just to find out.
