F75 and fresh buried targets

I know that performance is never the same on a freshly buried target as it is on something that's been in the ground a while. But, shouldn't a 69 cal round ball register at 8" or a Gardner at 7", even if freshly buried for testing? I have moderate ground that registers at 57-58 and even my MXT can do the job with a freshly buried bullet at these depths. The F75 was set for 1 tone, sensitivity of 60, disc of 6. I flipped it over into all metal as well and still wasn't picking up these targets.

I have a dime and a .58 cal. minie ball buried at ten inches and can hit them both in disc. and all metal with my F-75. That does seem to be close to the end of the depth for me on a freshly buried target. Gound balance around the 65 mark.

Jimmy, how clear are your targets coming up? Are getting them mainly on audio or are you getting good numbers too?

One thing I forgot to mention is that I seem to getting interference too. When I have the coil off the ground its starts cycling through different VDI numbers. I don't notice when I have the coil down, above the ground, but it happens if I lift it for any length of time. Could this be a reason for the lack of depth? If so, should I lower the Sensitivity until it stops doing this? Or, is there some other approach to this?

Sounds like severe interference could be adding to your problem.Try lower sens, see what happens....Cell phones turned on and on your hip also add problems...Machine is real sensitive and a little quirky.....Try De Mode..45 sens, 6 disc and all else preset..see if that makes a difference..and one more thing..did you clear the area before burying the coins..You may have a deeper target of some type below you intended targets, or even some iron......Let us know !!

Thanks Elton, I'm going to unearth the targets and recheck the area using your recommended settings and also see if I can get rid of the interference. Then I'll rebury them and try again. I know from experience with my MXT that you have to work with a machine to learn its quirks and get the most out of it. I need to play with the coil connection and swap it out with the F70 coil I have access to as well. Seems I'm getting some falsing from the coil connection when I just touch it and I'm not sure what's causing that.

who uses an F75 has experienced that problem..It makes the machine very unstable..Push it in real hard, yes the head will move a little, and when you remove it..same thing only in reverse..hard to get out.. That may be your problem..I know I had a bad outing because of that problem..

Thanks Elton, I'm going to install my in-line probe tonight and I will make sure the connection is seated correctly and then I'm going to try out some of the other troubleshooting tips I've learned if its still acting somewhat unstable (i.e., shifting the Hz, etc.). Strange thing is that the F70 acted like this briefly (once) while I was working with it and then it stopped and I still haven't figured out why.

It maybe just some kind of ineterference being turned on and turned off... You may never figure out what it is...

if your getting a lot of interference with your coil off the ground.......and its quieter On the ground..........you have a RF source somewhere close.
lowering the sens will likely make it quieter.but it WONT make it deeper.
Try changing the freq and see if you can make a difference in the amount of percieved interference. Hold your coil about waist level and cycle through the freqs and see if you can find one thats quieter. If you do find a quieter one.............dont be afraid to incerase to sens a bit. 60 is kinda low. I think you'll find if you bump it up to 80 the minnie will come in nice and clear. I regularly sun my sens at 90-95 in my soil. Want every inch I can get!! Streak!

At that depth I don't pay much attention to the ID. The sound dictates whether I dig, or not. They were a good enough signal I would have dug it out in the field.

I think you're right because I didn't get it tonight when hunting (practice with the new machine) in the backyard. I did pick up a large decayed metal target in the backyard at 12+ inches that I hadn't picked up with my other detectors. Was fun digging it up too since there isn't much left in the backyard to dig up.

Forgot to mention that the connections for the pinpointer weren't as awful tight as the connection from the coil to the processor, which makes me wonder if that overly tight connection is where the problem lies. I think I'm going to take off the pinpointer and rehook up the coil direct again and see if I have the problem again. If I do, I think I'll have to send the unit back for some repairs as I don't anticipate using the inline pinpointer all the time (takes away the weight savings I got over my MXT).

As long as you are not getting the random readings and audio when sweeping the coil over the ground you are good. It should not affect depth much if its running stable during normal hunting. It is kind of a pain to listen to when you set the machine down tho.
